It would be tenchnicly be claasified as Broadway, but a more specific description is Sondheim (he wrote the music and lyrics for the show) since his music is very unique and you're usually able to tell what he's written by listening.

Musical theater
Sweeney Todd was originally a Broadway Musical so even though the movie sounds evil and some people think that the music is Gothic it is still classified as a musical. if you listen to the Broadway musical soundtrack it is the same story and lyrics but with different characters

It can also be considered a musical opera, depending on how it is performed. Sondheim considered it a "black operetta."

probably under soundtrack or broadway or something. but all i have to say is I LOVE SWEENEY TODD!!!!!! i was in it this spring and it was AMAZING!!!!!!
