Because they are the true elitists.

In fact, they are everything they accuse others of being.

I'd be interested in seeing some specific examples as well as your definition of both neocon and Republican. As far as I know, far left liberals use the two interchangeably with "neocon" being some sort of insult against Republicans in general.

As far as the gist of your question, I would say that Republicans and conservatives, in general, are very interested in everyone's welfare. Liberals, conservatives, Democrats and Republicans all want the same thing - a better life for everyone in the country. Where conservative, as a whole, and Republicans, to a lesser degree, differ from liberals and Democrats is how.

Conservatives believe that everyone that can take care of themselves should do so. That is why we don't like to see the expansion and creation of social programs like Welfare, Social Security, the Prescription Drug Plan and Medicare/Medicaid. These are areas of life that people should be perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. however, due to a culture of personal irresponsibility and societal blame, many people now are unable to do so.

Conservatives believe in helping those who CANNOT help themselves ... not those who WILL NOT help themselves.
