This is a comment that was just posted...

"Soon many many people will be swept away with science and atheism, and people that believe in god will become martyrs and die for their beliefs... it is really sad how so many people will reject god even after so many warnings...warning after warning after warning."

Its really disturbing to me. Besides the willingness to be a martyr, the person directly opposes science as a whole. Thoughts?

I find it scary that they believe they will become a martyr. Why? It assumes that people who don't believe in religion will start killing people for having beliefs. It is more of the christian persecution complex - even though they make up 80% of American society they are worried they have to die for thier faith.

This has been an issue since the first time God has made himself known to mankind.

What do you mean when you say that martyrs oppose science as a whole? I believe in science, but I would still die for what I believe in!!!

This is why dogma is so incredibly creepy.

    RAmen

I forget who said it, but it was once said that 'The only difference between a martyr and a suicide was press coverage.' If all the religious people become martyrs, then why would atheists both giving them press coverage? Better yet, who would be around to think of them as martyrs, instead of just religious fools?

    It is a delusion.

I don't find any fault in anyone that wants to believe in God. I just think that the obsession with other people going to hell and the end of the world misses the whole point of faith.

Maybe the world end, maybe it won't. If you are saved, why should you give a sh*t?

Personally, this is what turned me off of religion at a very young age....that and the fact that the Bible never did make any sense to me.

There has been no warnings. I am an atheist and a proud one at that, yet I have not been warned by this so called god dude.

So tell me,if he really sent warnings,I think I'd be one of the people he would try to warn, and by saying that he has,is pretty stupid. Maybe he needs to start making his warnings more clear, but I wouldn't count on it.

So to that quote I say-Ridiculous!

    yeah

    my opinion on it is;

that certain religious people from certain religions are taught that everyone who is not them and does not believe what they do will be and should be punished, that they are wrong, evil

    etc

adn so they actually do worry about us in some weird sadistic way

they are taught as young children its a GOOOOOOOD thing to convert

and so they grow up truly believing it is and truly believing these words

    science is their enemy

its the enemy of brainwashing and fundamentalism

so of course they will oppose it

if he wants to be a martyr good for him

hes one of the many , that will either die and be out of our hair,

or ,the others that will NOT succeed and will be in hospital with agonising full body burns until they die a few hours later

(happened here in glasgow when they tried to attack teh airport)

its his life, his choice, and all cool by me

Hmm. Believers become "martyrs". Non-believers get "swept away". It seems there are two standards of death there. Nevertheless, death seems to be the predominant theme. Sad.

if he wants to think of himself as a martyr I wonder if he is getting his waistcoat ready?

that is not only a pathetic attempt at reason but also a pathetic mind at work.

I can not think of any other word to describe the person who said and fully believes this. I have seen such comments before and they scare me.

It is further proof of the incredibly harmful nature of faith based belief. It causes self fulfilling persecution complexes, and believers consistently look for reasons why they are in a terrible world, while we are really living in the best time in human history thus far.

the person who said that is exactly right... except what they fail to see is that when they are all done being martyrs, there wont be any of them left, and in the absence of religion, we can reclaim the world in the name of peace, prosperity, and universal acceptance.
