  • Christians, what impression does this quote give you?

"Oh, they don't have a logical explanation of how they got here. They claim that 'nothing' exploded and created the universe. Then, they saw that everything evolved from a rock!!! Of course, they add all kinds of sophisticated language to make it all sound scientific. The truth is, they don't have any logical, scientific explanation! The reason they came up ith evolution is because they don't want to admit there is a God."

I know some of you on here are educated, so I would like to know how you feel when a fellow Christian denies hundreds of years of peer-reviewed research and scientific investigation in favor of a literal interpretation of the Bible.

  • If we replaced thumbs downs with small electric shocks...?

    THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME

What would be an equally awesome replacement for the thumbs up?

    Best answer?

And for the sake of this questions legitimacy, which religion is the correct one?

  • Creationists, what was God thinking when he made the blind mole rat?

They are completely blind, but God made them with tiny eyes that are completely covered with skin? What was his point?

    OR

Is it possible that these eyes used to function in an ancestor with a reliance on eyesight, but as the creature began to thrive in underground environments, they lost their need for eyesight. Those with larger eyes, then, had an increased likelihood of injury/infection, and the genes the coded for smaller eyes were more likely to be passed on, until the rodent assumed its modern form.

Let's assume an omnipotent being with many human personality characteristics did it, for the sake of common sense. So why the non-functioning eyes under the skin?

(I asked this yesterday, but with no Creationist responses)

  • "Gabriel's Revelation" in the news today...?

I'm not sure if this has been posted today or not...

    http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1820...

The article is written about tablets that have been discovered and dated to a time before Jesus. What's interesting is that they contain information about a different "messiah" who rose in three days, suggesting that this was already a cultural paradigm before Jesus was even born.

    Thoughts?

Sorry if this is a re-post.

  • Really, is this a good examination of evolution?

This was an actual comment just made by a creationist:

"Seriously, if monkey's have evolved over the years, how come we don't see any monkey men walking around today? How come there's never been a transitional fossil found... EVER? Or at least since they're susposedly finding fossils millions of years old all the time, they can't seem to find one? Evolution has been proven false in too many area's to count. In reality, it's just an excuse to live however you please without having to be accountable to anyone above you."

I think I just need to share this so I know I'm not the only one who had to suffer the pain of reading it... oh sh*t, I think I'm losing hope in humanity.

  • Do you see a connection between religion and spam?

    Not the meat-product.

The spam that's like "If you don't send this to X amount of people you will be murdered tonight..." etc.

People know its implausible, but look at how much those messages spread around the internet! They instill fear in people, and they have a mechanism of spreading.

I just want to hear others thoughts on this, because I think that the Abrahamic religions are so widespread because their doctrines are contagious. Once people hear them they're enticed into staying faithful, they expect a reward, an afterlife, and they have an omnipotent being to be both feared and befriended. Its like an extremely effective contagious thought trap, despite the fact that its founded upon purely irrational concepts.

Does anybody else feel the same way? Does anybody think that's nonsense? I'd like opinions from both sides, so fire away.

  • Do you have an opinion on this quote?

This is a comment that was just posted...

"Soon many many people will be swept away with science and atheism, and people that believe in god will become martyrs and die for their beliefs... it is really sad how so many people will reject god even after so many warnings...warning after warning after warning."

Its really disturbing to me. Besides the willingness to be a martyr, the person directly opposes science as a whole. Thoughts?

  • In reference to the man saved from a car crash by angels.?

I'm an angel investigator don't worry... I need to clarify a few points... so you were traveling at

    -35 mpg

-A car jumped 5-8 feet in front of you as it pulled out of a gas station.

-You swerved to avoid it, sensing a slow-down of time

-In the space of 20 (TWENTY) feet, you executed a nearly 90 degree turn and then turned back on the road without losing traction.

So you executed a 90 degree turn, at 35mph, in the space of 20 feet, to avoid a car that pulled out 5-8 feet in front of you?

Why did all the Christians say "god is great!" when the story is so riddled with ridiculous information?

  • Is your current location more like heaven, hell, purgatory, or....?

any other spiritual/religious idea of "another place".

Please describe your current surroundings to support your choice.

I'm at work, and it feels like purgatory.

  • Weekend plans and religious affiliation...?

I'm investigating a correlation between unsatisfying weekends and affiliation with Abrahamic traditions. Alternatively, I hypothesize that many atheists party like its the only life they've got.

Please state your plans for this weekend and your religious views.

  • How do you feel about this awesome Christian freakout session?

I know most of you have seen this video before, but I think its classic enough to show again.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TJLOGI2Odc&feature...

By the way, I realize that this behavior is not typical of 95% of Christians.

What are your thoughts in this behavior though? What do you think her motives are?

  • Christians, what does God do after the world ends?

Let's say tomorrow, some of you get raptured (leaving behind christian-shaped holes in the fabric of space/time, unfortunately.)

    Skip ahead, New Heaven/New Earth.

So everybody's dead and judged, christians are in heaven, everybody else may be in the most vicious state of despair and torment imaginable, for eternity.

So what is god doing? Is he just hanging out? What is he doing for the rest of eternity, after all that action with creating earth, smiting, putting his son in a virgin, etc.? What are the christian views on that?

    http://www.ulc.net/

-Click 'apply for free ordination' at the bottom.

P.S. VT Scoffette, in response to a comment you posted, I was officially ordained 3 years ago, and Corona with a slice of lime was my rite of baptism.

  • In what ways will religion have changed in 50 years?

For the sake of simplicity, I'll ask in regards to Abrahamic traditions. Some things to consider...

-Will religion have a greater following, or decrease in faithful (consider the continuing population explosion).

-Will there be a greater rift between science and religion?

-Will there be a greater emphasis on spirituality and consciousness?

For the religious, although I know the bible says nobody knows when jesus will come, do you personally think we are at the end times?

Just some things to think about... what are your thoughts on the future of religion?

  • Just another qcience question for Creationists - From an atheist :) - Light speed?

Alright, I assume everybody can agree on the speed of light. How are stars that are millions of light years away visible if the universe is 6,000 years old? The mathematics behind measuring their distance are relatively fundamental. If they're wrong and the universe is 6,000 years old, how did we usher in an age of information technology following the nuclear age with a false understanding of the speed of light? I love this debate :-) and appreciate your responses.
