Do most of the government programs help or hinder today's society?

I have a friend who is a caseworker and in their filing room they have file cabinets DRAWERS dediated to single families each. Easy to trace a family tree, but it is sad. Poverty and ignorance is a disease that will never be cured by throwing money at it, but the world needs a certain amount for balance, that may sound cruel, but ask an economist. BUT there are people who are just really good at working the system. I have a friend working on his PHD, he has been in college classes since 1995, has never worked, owns a home a car, huge entertainment center, has health insurance and a family...she works...go figure...Education is nice, but this person has no intention of ever doing anyting except postulating....So what's the answer, one thing would be to enforce laws concerning education, especially high school dropouts. You know the one about give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. teach a man to fish and you feed him for life? Keep throwing fish why would anyone get up?

First off, welfare was discontinued under the Clinton Administration. The simple fact is there have always been poor people and there always will be. If we are "Christian" then we should help those less advantaged. Some people are not physically or mentally capable of caring for themselves.

Some things we can do is:

Make sure educational grants are available to those who can be admitted to college. A degree goes a long way to self-sufficiency,

Increase the minimum wage. If one working parent working a 40-50 hour work week cannot afford to support their family with the basics-adequate housing,food and clothing on their wages, then they will turn to the Government for help. The higher wages will be passed on to the consumer as it should be. One way or another we need to help those less fortunate than us. It is all well and good to say we should leave it up to the churches and the charities but people are not generous enough to help all the people that need help.

Funny how we think nothing of our Government helping the poor, starving, homeless people in other countries but God Forbid we would help our own! Then we holler how lazy and useless they are. They are no different than those we help overseas.

The Republicans have created a society based on hatred and narcissism. It is how much is in it for me and the hell with everyone else. It does not matter if all the money that we should use to help the poor , or people displaced by a national disaster is used as tax breaks for the people who earn more than 1.5 million a year. Because they use the media to convince the blue-collar and the middle class that THEY are the ones who will pay for it! Sad part is they are paying for something....the lining of the rich people's pockets!

For those of you that shall attack me as one of the people that needs charity, it is the opposite. We donate quite a bit to the poor and charities for the poor. I will pay more taxes as a result of what I say we should do however it is the right thing to do and I will NEVER turn my back on those less fortunate than me just to line my pockets with more money. Those who do, should be ashamed!

These people have been tought WIC is to pay for you to have kids, that welfare means you never have to work, its pathetic.

There should be a time limit, child limit, and amount limit. How people feel owed anything by anyone is beyond me. Pride no longer exists. My family wouldve killed themselves if theyd had to ask for help. And they wouldve killed themselves making large profits at others expense.

PS not a christian society. Founding fathers, atheists. God stuff added to everything, not until the wars . Freedom of AND FROM religion.

Dont teach abstinence. People are going to do it no matter what you tell them, its human nature (Christain or not). So instead, teach them how to better protect themselves from pregnancy. Teach them contraceptives and how effective they are, teach them about their ovulation cycles and when they are fertile. Find them jobs and training so they can see there is a better way of life than welfare. Show them how much more money they could have.

When is there ever a motivation to provide for yourself when the government can legally tax Paul to accomodate Peter sitting on his lazy *** all day and impregnate his wife (who's also on welfare)?

enable me ask you this. How lots have you ever donated to the government on your man or woman? no longer which includes taxes. you have a job, or paintings splendid? then you are richer than the homeless individual on the line. then why do no longer you provide all your funds to the homeless individual on the line a week? and that i do mean all your funds. in case you do then why provide it to the government, you gave it to the guy themselves to apply what they mandatory it for. yet we decide for for you, no all of us call for which you do. so you might supply all your funds to the government willingly. no longer basically some yet all.
