So would anybody like to summarise what we've learnt in the last year or so at R&S?

Some kind of Cliff's Notes would be good.

I've been away.

Update:

Matador, I've made no spelling mistakes. You are aware that there are countries other than your own that speak English, right?

I have learned there are lovely people from all over the world. From all Faiths and those who are non-believers.

Have learned many fascinating facts. New terms and theories.

Sadly, I have also learned hate and bigotry is not particular to any one group of people.

I have learned to laugh with my friends here during the good times. We also have a deep bond with one another. When a member is hurting or ill. We support and cry with them. Do our best to help them carry the burden.

I don't know you. Seems my friends here think highly of you. Hope to get to know you better. :)

  • Atheist is spelled "A T H E I S T" - they're the ones who don't believe in God.

Christians (not chrisatans, mind) - they're the ones who believe in one triune God.

Muslims - They're the ones who believe in the one true God who is both like and unlike the triune God.

Agnostics are not simply people who can't make up their minds.

Pagans, Jews, Satanists, Theists of the "other" categories are all present and accounted for, but largely under-represented.

We still have monkeys, whether people evolved from them or their common ancestor and we still have bananas even though I'm not at all sure what that proves, exactly.

Similarly, even though Spaghetti-O's came from spaghetti, thank the FSM we still have spaghetti. I believe the Baptists are cooking him for a fund-raising dinner this fall, but I'm reasonably sure we'll still have the FSM: ReBooted.

Everything bad in the world can apparently be traced to taking arbitrary prayer out of school, though no one can site exactly how this occurs. We're not likely to ever settle whether Adam and Eve had belly buttons and really it doesn't matter because then there'd be the question of whether they were innies or outies or what they though of their children's belly buttons if they themselves had none.

Adam's marriage to Eve has been substituted with Adam and Lilith or Adam and Steve. And there are rumors that Jesus and Mary were married with children.

We've been overtaken by cats, had a prom, ROAMed mercilessly, and there are rumors that at least one Christian sect has taken over the Cats section and need to be rounded up and brought back to their rooms. Wherever that might be. Which might be their very own section if we could decide why atheists are here/whether or not this is the Christian section/and whose wife will we be in the Resurrection.

I guess the only thing really new is "Rick-rolling," but I don't recommend it. <shivers>

So, welcome back! Good to see you! ;o)

Source(s): Perhaps Matador is simply pointing out that, on the whole, R&S hasn't learned to spell in your absense? ;o)

I learned that the only way God could be both Omnipotent, and Omniscient is if he knows all the things that could possibly be from the result of every decisions that everyone ever made anywhere. Which narrows free will down quite a lot.

I learned that fundamentalists want to return to the 'good old days' when 'people like us' where in charge ( you can substitute just about any 'us' for 'us' ).

I learned the Flying Spaghetti Montster's secret hand-sign ( can you guess how many fingers I'm holding up? And if so, which finger is it? ).

There will always be people out there who can only answer a question by quoting a holy book.

There are always going to be people out there who believe in their religion yet have never read the entire holy book.

There are people out there that do not even understand what evolution is.

There are people out there that dont know the difference between a relationship and a religion.

There are a lot of people that use religion as an excuse for bigotry.

There are always going to be people who ask the same kinds of questions.

Its kind of made me wonder if God could make a forum so pointless that even he/she has given up on it.

We will all remain reluctant to learn anything.

And no matter how much we whine about it, Yahoo! will STILL delete the awesome stuff.

And the zionati hate the atheati.

And I'm the only person who doesn't like Pretzels.

Let's see, you've missed a lot of the same crap, different days. Fads, mini memes, bickering about same-sex marriage, monkies, you know. =0)

    Honestly? Nothing.

Run while you still can, really. It can't be too long before you'll be answering your first question about why there are still monkeys. Or monkees. Or even monkies.

    Run!
