For those who believe in speaking in tongues:?

There are many Gifts of the Spirit and Tongues is just one of them. I have spoken in tongues but I believe it is grossly misunderstood and misused in today's church. Let the Bible be your guide to the Gifts and don't worry about man's traditions.

many denominations (people of those denominations) think they have the Holy Spirit, but if they have not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit w/ the evidence of speaking in other tongues (acts 2:4), then they do NOT have the Holy Spirit.

being filled w/ the Holy Spirit is not automatic at baptism.

it is not automatic when you believe.

the initial infilling of God's Spirit & the "gifts" of the Spirit are 2 separate things. (as you can tell from reading all these different answers, these 2 things are greatly confused by many people.)

it is only after receiving the infilling of the Holy Spirit w/ the evidence of speaking in another tongues (acts 2:4) that you can receive the 9 gifts of the Spirit.

those 9 operational gifts being:

1. word of wisdom

2. word of knowledge

3. gifts of healing

4. working of miracles

5. gift of faith

6. prophecy

7. gift of diverse tongues

8. gift of interpretation of tongues

9. discerning of spirits

all churches today should experience what the new testament church experienced in the book of acts (the history book of the NT church).

it is for us today, just like it was for those who received it 2,000 years ago when God poured out His Spirit on the day of Pentecost. He continues to pour out His Spirit today.

I feel about the same as you.... I have spoken in tongues, the kind of tongues a few Christians are talking about when they say that..... The UNKNOWN moanings in prayer when I just do not know how to pray about a particular situation, so the Spirit prays for me but through me !!!!!! People tend to forget or just do not realize that in MOST verses , when the Bible speaks of tongues, it is talking about speaking in a language, a KNOWN language, that YOU have never spoken before, but those who do know it, can understand what you are saying.. Example : I do NOT speak, German, Dutch or French, NEVER have studied or seen them written, but if I were to be among a group of people that each spoke one of those languages each one would HEAR me speaking in their language...... they would ALL understand me !!! To them I would be speaking what they spoke !!!!! The Holy Spirit is the comforter, the part of God that LIVES with in each of us, after we become *believers*, *Children of God*, *Members of the Body of Christ* , *the Church*, the Spirit is what makes us those things........
