how long after birth?
My daughter was born on September 20, 2007. she is about 8 1/2 months old now. I breastfeed her, have since the day she was born. She has never had formula, only baby food in the last few months. My issue is I still havent had my period. My mom said she had hers by the time me and my bro were 6 months old and she breastfed us too. I know I am not pregnant, my husband had a vasectomy 3 months after our baby was born and has been declared sterile, also I took a pregnancy test not too long ago, just to rule that out. Is it normal to go this long and not have a period?

Yes, it's very normal. I just had my first period last month and my baby is one year old. Breastfeeding can hault your period for quite some time. Congratulations on breastfeeding your baby for that long! It's a tough job that should be commended.

I know how you feel. My son was born oct 25th 2007, so he's almost 7 1/2 months and I still havent got my period. Ive heard its from breastfeeding as well and it seems to be right for me because i still breastfeed him 5 times a day. He has started solids but i still feed him first then give him solids after an hour or so. So dont be worried, its normal and there are plenty of breastfeeding mothers out there like you (and me!). All the best with your little one.

That is totally normal. Many women don't get a period when they are breastfeeding. The fact that your Mom did get a period while breastfeeding doesn't mean the exact same thing is going to happen to you.
If you are really concerned, you should see the doctor, but this is totally normal.
I think Mothers tend to assume that exactly what happened to them is exactly what will happen to us, but our genetics is only 50% of their genetics...the father's genetics play a part too, and then environment plays a part also, so what will actually happen is anyone's guess.
I would add that just because you are breastfeeding and not getting a period doesn't mean that you aren't ovulating, and therefore you might be ovulating and possible could get pregnant, but y'all seem to have addressed that issue with your husband's vasectomy.

My mom said she got hers again almost immediately after birth, despite BFing us as babies. When I had mine I assumed the same would happen to me, but I didn't see my period until 11 months post partum. Like you, I never used formula, but breastfed for 14 months.

If you breastfeed exclusively you wont get your period for quite a while...but at the same time, dont take the chance that you cant get pregnant...because you still may!! ( Unless you want to then thats different :) )
