What is the safest way to shrink a t-shirt?

Okay, I have a t-shirt that is waaay too big for me and it needs to shrink down at least two sizes. I see that the best way to shrink is by washing in hot water, followed by a hot dryer cycle. My concern is that it has a design on the front, not sure what to call it but one of the kind where you need to turn it inside out in the dryer so the design doesn't get messed up . . I know, helpfull. Anyways, what would be the safest way to shrink it at home?

Turn the shirt inside out and taper the sides in, sewing them. That'll take off a few inches of width. As for length, long shirts are great anyway.

wash it in hot water and dry it on high in the dryer
