Whats your opinion on Dreft Laundry detergent?
I am due in november and I'm starting to get a few pieces of clothing here and there. How important is it to use Dreft or some other fragrance/dye free detergent to wash a newborns clothes? And If its important, at what age can they begin having their clothes washed with our "adult" clothes?

Dreft works well, but really isn't worth buying. Any fragrance -free detergent will work just as well and cost less. "All" came out with a detergent called "All Baby" which works great. It is important for babies to have their clothing washed in fragrance-free detergent to avoid skin irriations, HOWEVER, it is just as important for the entire household to wash their clothing in it as well. Otherwise, you are picking up a baby and laying them against your shirt which was washed in regular detergent. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of washing the baby's clothes in fragrance and dye-free detergent, now doesn't it?
My suggestion is to use fragrance and dye-free detergent for all members of the household that will be in contact with the baby for the first three months, and then you can discontinue using it. your
Congrats on your pregnancy!!

Dreft is ok, but I like Tide fragrance free better, and I get more use out of it than Dreft. Uusually a child with "regular" skin can use fragranced detergent around 6 months. But I still use it even for my 2-year-old...

I used dreft for all of my kids until they were about a year. But that was before they had detergents like tide with no dye or fragrance free. I think it helps avoid skin irritation if washed in mild detergents.

The flame retardant matter will be taken care of by the manufacturer; what you need to stock up on is something like Dreft or any laundry detergent for babies. This tough stuff we buy for normal laundry will be very harsh on a little one's skin up till they are 3 yrs old or older.Be kind to your children and do their laundry separate and not cause a rash or allergy or a hospital visit. Just plan to buy what you need for their laundry. I used to keep my babies clothes tossed in a little plastic tub, soaking in mild dish washing liquid and it'd soak away the stains and make their laundry quick and easy and always looked like new clothes.

Dreft is just a brand name and not worth the money. Any free and clear detergent works well. I use it for all our clothes. I started washing all our clothes together when our son was 3 months old and we've had no problems. My son has sensitive skin so if it wasn't okay, I would have known right away.

I always used Dreft for my newborns clothes, but only because I like how it smells. It is perfectly fine to use normal laundry soap on your baby's clothes. At first you many want to wash them separate from the rest of the family's clothes, but you don't have to for any specific reason and not for a long period of time. All new clothing and anything else that will come into contact with your baby's skin such as blankets, sheets, towels, socks, etc., should have an initial washing before the first use. Most new clothing items have a substance applied to them to keep them looking nice and clean while on display at the store. Shipping and handling plus being looked at in stores causes quite a lot of hands to have touched them. A run through a wash and dry cycle will get them ready to be used on your baby's sensitive skin. I am mom to 4 kids, with each one I began to wash their clothes with the rest of the family's earlier and earlier since I simply had less time to wash separate loads of clothes.

I used Dreft until she was a couple of months. I then switched to the Tide free. It has no fragrance or dyes. I also use the Downy Free.

I never used Dreft, I always washed my baby's clothes seperately with my own laundry soap and wisk. I started washing them with mine when he was about a year old.
