  • What advice and tips can you share about your visit to Jamaica that would help a first-time visitor?

I am helping my 23 year old daughter research visiting Jamaica. She and some friends leave Dec. 31 for a week-long visit. None of them have ever been to Jamaica. We've done some research on line and in some tour books, but would really like some first-hand advice from people who have been there. If you've been to Jamaica and have some advice and tips to offer, we'd appreciate it. Things like "I wish I knew______before I visited Jamaica." or "If I ever visit Jamaica again, I'll be sure to ______." They will be staying in Negril so anything specific about that town would be helpful as well as general info about Jamaica. Thanks!

  • Which glucose testing machine do you recommend?

I am helping my 22 year old daughter do some research on glucose testing machines. Today she was diagnosed with glucose intolerance (fasting glucose level 118). She is also waiting for the results from a blood test for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Her doctor is 99% sure the test will come back positive for PCOS based on other symptoms she is experiencing. My daughter needs to get a glucose testing machine. We know there are several on the market and we would like to know people's real experiences with different makes and models. Ease of use, portablility, and as less pain as possible are of particular interest to my daughter. If you are using a glucose testing machine we would welcome your opinions and any advice you can pass on. Thank you for serious answers on this serious subject.

  • Besides Grandma and Grandpa what are some other names you know of that grandparents can be called by?

My husband and I are very excited to have just found out that we will be first-time grandparents in April. Our daughter and son-in-law shared the news on Saturday. My husband and I have been discussing this new stage of our life that we will be entering soon. At 47 and 48, we still feel pretty young plus both my parents and my husband's parents are alive. I also have a living grandma as well - she will be 91 in Sept. So, this baby will be very blessed to have plenty of grandmas and grandpas to love it. We were wondering what were some ideas to help us distinquish which grandma and grandpa is which. We realize, of course, that in due time, this baby will probably develop his/her own way to indicate which grandparent he/she is talking about.

  • What is a unique gift to give a third grade teacher for an end of the school year present?

I have been a parent volunteer since my oldest started kindergarten in 1984 and have helped with numerous end of the school year parties. My youngest is in 3rd grade and I think my creativity has taken a leave of absence (or just too tired). I am just not coming up with any ideas for a teacher present this year. What are some good teacher gifts that you can think of? Some of the things I have done in the past are gift certificates to restaurants, teacher stores, sporting events, book stores; fabric painted sweatshirts, tote bags, aprons with kids' names and handprints; flowers, plants, and trees; one year I did a summer survival kit with sunscreen, a book, a sun hat, etc, in a styrafoam cooler. All of these are thoughtful gifts and appreciated by teachers. Does anyone have other suggestions for truly unique gift ideas? Thanks!

  • What is a good method or recipe for cooking a fresh wild turkey?

We have a large abundance of wild turkeys on our back property. We let a couple hunt and this morning she shot a big tom turkey. As a thank you to us for letting them hunt on our land, he brought me the turkey this afternoon. He took the feathers off and it is skinned. I have only cooked a frozen store bought turkey once and have no clue as to the best way to cook this. Is there anyone who is a sportsman or has had experience cooking wild turkey? Any helpful hints or recipes would be appreciated. This is a serious question, please no propaganda from anti-hunters. Thanks.

  • What are the best, not-to-be-missed, things to see and do in Chicago?

We are taking a 3 generational "girl" trip to Chicago April 4-7. My mom (68), my 3 daughters (26, 21 and 8 - nope, not a typo! - daughter #3 was a BIG delightful surprise!!), and I (47) have never been to Chicago. We are looking for some suggestions as to what are the best things for first time visitors to see and do in Chicago. Also, any hints and tips for getting around in "the big city" - we are from "small-town" Michigan. Thanks for any family friendly ideas you have.
