Name a few of your favorite animes?

I'm looking for something good to watch. Please name a few of your favorite to help me figure out what next. Also state your age as that greatly effects taste. I am 19.

My favorite has to be code geass.

I also like full metal alchemist, eureka seven, dragonballz, and bleach.

so if there's anything other than that, that'd be great.

also I mostly watch anime in japanese with subtitles (download torrents) so if it isn't out in US yet that is fine!

Update:

thanks, really helpful guys.

I'm 22 and my number one anime is Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X. It's the story of Kenshin Himura, an infamous assasin during the Tokugawa era. Its storyline is divided into three major segments: the series which is composed of 95 episodes, the first OVA, Tsuioku Hen or Trust and Betrayal, which chronicles Kenshin's younger years from when he was taken in by the master who taught him the famed Hiten Mitsurugi technique up to how he became Battousai the notorious manslayer, and how he eventually got his famous cross-shaped scar, and the second OVA, Seisou Hen or Reflections, which chronicles Kenshin and Kaoru's (the leading lady of the series who eventually became his second wife) married life together and just like what the title suggests, it focuses on Kaoru's reflections of their past, particularly Kenshin's, which even after many years, continues to haunt him, and how this situation affects the lives of those closest to him.

It also has a movie, the Ishin Shishi he no Requiem. However, it is not as closely related to the series as the OVAs are, since it is a sort of a brief interlude in Kenshin and his gang's travels and tells the story of a swordsman whose bestfriend Kenshin Killed in the war, which the swordsman in question didn't know at first.

After RK, my other top picks include:

    Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion is an apocalyptic mecha action series which centers around the efforts by the paramilitary organization NERV to fight monstrous beings called Angels, primarily using giant mecha called Evangelions which are piloted by select teenagers, one of whom is the primary protagonist. It follows those teenagers and other NERV members until the defeat of the Angels and the eventual apocalyptic ending.

Events in the series refer to Judeo-Christian symbols from the book of Genesis and Biblical apocrypha among others. Later episodes shift focus to psychoanalysis of the main characters, who display various emotional problems and mental illnesses; the nature of existence and reality are questioned in a way that lets Evangelion be characterized as "postmodern fantasy"

    Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell is a futuristic police thriller dealing with the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the covert operations section of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, Section 9, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime. The setting of Ghost in the Shell is cyberpunk or postcyberpunk. However, the author focused more on the ethical and philosophical ramifications of the widespread merging of humanity and technology, the development of artificial intelligence and an omnipresent computer network set the stage for a reevaluation of human identity and uniqueness. Kusanagi and her colleagues face external threats and also suffer internal conflict over their own natures.

    Death Note

Light Yagami is an extremely intelligent young man who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground. The Death Note's instructions claim that if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the notebook's authenticity, but after experimenting with it, Light realizes that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the New World" by passing his judgment on those he deems to be evil or who get in his way.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (キラ, "Kira"? derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word "killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins.

    Hajime no Ippo/Knock Out

It revolves around Ippo Makunochi, a young teenager who always gets teased because of helping his mother in their 'fishing' business (which includes preparing worms as baits) and bullied because of his meekness. The same stuff happens over and over again until he met Takamura, a champion boxer who saved him from the school bullies. After convincing Takamura and gym founder Mr. Kamogawa of his potential talent, he was accepted in the gym and personally trained by Mr. Kamogawa himself. From there on he pushed his limits to take his dream of becoming strong one step further by defeating one strong and formidable opponent after another

Honestly, the drawings are not really attractive and the plot is the typical dark-horse genius, however, the fight scenes more than make up for it. I don't know about other people, but this series sure made me jumping and cheering like i was in a real arena, aside from that, it has a lot of humor too.

    Detective Conan/Case Closed

It's the story of self-proclaimed teenage detective Shinichi Kudo whose amazingly accurate deductions prompted murderers/syndicate members to force him into drinking a relatively new and mysterious medicine in order to kill him before he expose their crime. However, instead of dying, the 16/17 yr old Kudo's body reverted back to that of a boy's. In need of a disguise to protect his life and find the cure to turn himself back to normal, he assumed the name of Conan Edogawa who solves near perfect crimes with his little head while lending his voice to a famed detective to protect his cover as a young kid.

    Monster

Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a young Japanese doctor working at the Eisler Memorial Hospital in Düsseldorf during the 80s. A highly accomplished brain surgeon, he appears to have everything on his plate: a promotion in the offing; the favor of the director of the hospital, Heinemann; and Heinemann's daughter, Eva, as his fiancée. However, Tenma grows increasingly dissatisfied with the political bias of the hospital for treating patients, and seizes his chance to change things after a strange massacre brings the twins Johan and Anna Liebert into his hospital. Johan has a gunshot wound to the head and Anna keeps muttering about killing, and Tenma decides to operate on Johan instead of a prominent politician who arrived afterwards. Johan is saved, but the politician dies. Tenma loses all his social standing and Eva as a consequence. However, Heinemann and other doctors in Tenma's way are mysteriously murdered, and both children disappear from the hospital soon after. The police suspect Tenma, as he benefits greatly from this turn of events, but they have no evidence, and so can do no more than question him.

At this point, the story advances to nine years later. Tenma is now the Chief of Surgery at Eisler Memorial Hospital. However, he is about to come face to face with a sociopath - a sociopath that he helped save.

    Saiyuki

Saiyuki is the story of four anti-heroes: the monk Genjyo Sanzo (or just "Sanzo"), the monkey demon Son Goku, the half-demon Sha Gojyo, and the man turned demon Cho Hakkai (formerly known as Cho Gonou). They have been dispatched by the Sanbutsushin (the Three Aspects of Buddha, who relay the orders of heaven) to travel to India to stop the possible resurrection of the Bull-Demon-King, Gyumaoh. Along the way they are beset by inept assassins, bad weather, and their own tragic, personal pasts

    Slam Dunk

It's the story of a red-haired teenage punk who has a natural inclination for trouble and was thus rejected by 50 girls before he even reached high school. The story revolves around his antics, his frustrated love for the girl who's in love with his greatst rival, and his firm belief that he's a genius despite of all the embarassing disasters that suggest otherwise.

I currently have 3 favorites Katekyo Hitman Reborn! A baby hitman named Reborn, who is the Vongola family's #1 hitman of the mafia ventures to Japan where he meets a boy named Tsuna who has no determination in life. Reborn becomes Tsuna's "tutor", while he attempts to train him to be the next boss of the Vongola family. Reborn also possesses a special bullet call the 'Dying Will' bullet, that is a specialty of the Vongola family. This bullet will revive you from death if you have any regrets when dying. When the bullet revives you, it gives you the determination to do what needs to be done. It gets boring in the first few episodes, but after that there's nothing but awesome action! Gintama Sakata Gintoki is a samurai living in an era when samurais are no longer needed. To add to his troubles, oppressive aliens have moved in to invade. Gintoki lives with Kagura and Shinpachi, taking on odd jobs to make the world a better place...and to pay their rent. Hilarious anime! and Cross Game The main character is Kou Kitamura, son of the owner of Kitamura Sports. In the same neighborhood is a batting center run by the Tsukishima family. Due to their proximity and the relationship between their businesses, the Kitamura and Tsukishima familes have been close for many years, with their children going back and forth between the two homes like extended family. Because Kou and Wakaba were the same age and always together, Aoba was jealous of all the time Kou spent with her older sister. Aoba is a natural pitcher with excellent form, and Kou secretly trains to become as good as she was, even while publicly showing little interest in baseball. I'm not really sure why I like this anime, maybe because of the good story.
