Does a unity candle have to be white or Ivory?

    I've seen them in all colors--I've also seen colored sand vases as an alternative. The idea is the two of you coming together to become one. I don't think they have to be white or ivory for that, if so I've been to some weddings that have done it wrong!

    I think it should match the color of your dress. If you have a white dress, get a white unity candle. If you have a ivory dress, get an ivory dress.

    No.... it also doesn't have to be purchased from a website/bridal store with a label designating it a "Unity Candle" and a ridiculous price tag. It can be any candle you want. My husband and I grabbed a plain red pillar from Wal-Mart the night before the wedding, and I promise no one was struck by lightning when it was lit. :)
