Will Obama increase gas prices?

Ask yourself this question: "Do you think taxing, and taxing and taxing American companies and the Americans that work for American companies and trashing the stock of companies that many many Americans own pieces of in their 401(k)s for retirement is the needed thing to do to America & its citizens?"

Also, BTW, who is it that is actually HURTING the American citizens?? Is it business that hires & pays citizens? Is it business that ALREADY pays BILLIONS of dollars in taxes to the government??? Or is it the DEMOCRATIC Congress that constantly votes DOWN solutions to the energy crunch? Democratic Congress votes NO to drilling in ANWR, NO to drilling off shore, NO to drilling ON shore, NO to more refinery capacity, NO to nuclear energy, etc. ON and ON and ON, again. THEY are the one's who are hurting Americans!

Update:

Howard: Who is going to pay for it all? If you tax the oil companies as Obama wants to research greener methods of energy, gas prices are going to skyrocket. It is simple macroeconomics!

Update 2:

MrsKev: How will that lower gas prices, you are basically saying yeah it will increase but by 2030 we won't need gas anymore...even if Obama wins he could only spend a max of 8 years in office. We have been trying to build a nuclear waste management facility since 1978 and if things continue to according to plan the earliest it will be ready for use would be between 20-25 years from now.

Agreed. They are out of control. All these big oil company's are owned by Americans through mutual funds and stock options. . They are not this evil entity working alone to destroy the world. But Congress portrays them like as if they were Dr.Evil.

Obama is talking about taxing Oil companies because they are making profit. Isn't that the whole point of going into business? Profit.

Oil company profit margins are around 6-8%, depending on your source. Quite in line with most businesses. They already pay taxes; why ask them to pay more?

Besides, taxes levied on the oil companies will just cause the gas prices to go UP!

So the answer to your question, given what Obama has said, is YES!

The corporations are paying less in taxes, but are posting record profits, while at the same time they make their employees pay the difference in the higher premiums on their health plans, and they raise the prices on their products.

You're painting these corporations as some sort of heroes?

While we sit here struggling to pay for our gas to get to work, struggling to pay for food as gas prices rise therefore driving up the cost of EVERYTHING, while we sit here weighing the pros and cons of paying an additional $200 a month towards our healthcare premium or affording food and heating for our home because the company raised the premium and at the same time our salary raise this year was lower than normal.

Eh I'll just drop my healthcare, if something major happens I will be screwed for life with debt, but oh well I have to eat or I'll be dead anyway.

Yeah, I definitely would think of my all-mighty big corporation employer as my hero.

I'm sure the CEO's raise this year (which by the way is about as much as I'll make total in the next 10 years) was warranted, after all, he oversaw record profits.

I'll see that trickle down.... someday... I just know it.

I wouldn't put anything past that left-wing loon. But gas prices seem to be going up dramatically all by themselves. Still, Obama could make a bad situation worse, with a "windfall profits" tax, just like Jimmy Carter did. Remember him? Inflation was 18% a year. The prime rate (the rate banks charge each other, not us) was 21%, the rest of us got socked 24%, or even more than that if your credit was less than kosher. I, for one, don't want to take even the slightest chance of returning to those times. That' why I'm voting McCain. He's not my favorite person, but he's not nearly as dangerous as the other guy!

The Republican run Congress and White House had every opportunity to rectify the lack of drilling and refining and add nuclear energy. For six whole years. Six years in which they dismantled many of the pollution controls, banking and finance regulations, insurance and health care problems that still beset us, they didn't in fact do anything at all to ease any regulations for drilling or issue permits for refineries or nuclear power plants, for those six years it was a great big Congressional vacation. The Republicans didn't do a darn thing for those years and so blaming Democrats when they have held a one man 'majority' for two years, is not reasonable.

When blindness to actual fact is used as a rationale, no solution can be found.

Congress will be so divided if Barack Hussein Obama is elected that they will be lucky to pass any meaningful legislation. I think it would be a good thing if every incumbent running this year is voted out of office. The skid-marks in congress are about as sorry as I can remember.

Congress has been doing the same thing about our energy problem for the past thirty years--nothing.

short answer is based on what he has said yes prices will go up. ed j, a little history lesson for you, in the last 56 yrs. dems. controlled congress for 42 of them. we had a gas crisis in 72, dems controlled congress then and for another 20 yrs. after that. what was done to halt our dependence on foreign oil? i don't blame dems for everything that has gone wrong, just as i don't blame reps or bush for everything. both parties have made more than their share of mistakes, lacked any foresight but both parties are dead right in their hindsight.

No, but they will increase. It's a matter of too much demand, and a limited supply.

And as someone just said "We can't drill our way out of this". The US doesn't have enough oil.

The someone was not exactly an environmentalist or a liberal. It was Bill O'Reilly.

The real cure is electric/hydrogen powered cars, and alternative power plants; nuclear, wind, solar, to fuel them. That costs money, but there is no easy answer.

YEP! He supports the environmentalists. The Democratic Congress is to blame for the higher costs of fuel.

gas expenditures went up interior the Bush years by means of fact OPEC threatened to tighten the faucet or shift recources to China by means of fact of increasing call for. This brought about panic between oil agencies who braced themselves for the worst and envisioned an strengthen of their own expenses. occasion: in case you own a tan parlor and the electrical powered corporation tells you that next month they are elevating their expenditures one hundred%, then you definately will could at latest double the fees which you will charge your purchasers in case you may look after a similar income margin as earlier the value substitute. in case you wait 2 months to advance your expenditures besides the shown fact that, your corporation will probable fail when you consider which you're paying the skill corporation extra suitable than you owe. huge oil raised its expenditures by means of fact OPEC introduced that crude oil could quickly grow to be plenty extra costly.
