Charged extra for long hair?

I could understand the charge if I had hair 18 inches long and I wanted 10 inches removed and the entire thing redone. They wanted to charge me $10 extra to have them trim the ends of my hair.

If a person pays for a haircut.....then it shouldn't matter if the hair is below the shoulders or 2 inches from the scalp.

Are the stylists going to start refunding money to people with thinning hair? What about charging different amounts based on the color of the hair? Science has proven that blonds have more hair than redheads.

What do you think? Reasonable or rip-off?

Update:

Charging extra for color or treatments are understandable because of the amount of supplies used. I'm talking about a simple haircut in the question.

I guess it's because if your hair is long, that means you probably don't get your hair cut as often, so the salon feels they are losing business. If your hair is shorter, you probably get your hair cut more often, so they charge less so you can afford to come back.

I'm not sure if that's the reason they do it, but I agree, length shouldn't have a different charge. There are a lot of shorter hair styles that take more time to sculpt and cut than the longer one length cuts.

I suggest you go to a cheaper salon like Holiday Hair or Cost Cutters. They charge you per length, and for trims, but it's not overly expensive. Never more than $20 for a long hair cut.

This sounds fishy to me. I have long hair and I've been charged extra for color (sometimes double), but never for a haircut, especially not for trimming, because all they're doing is cutting off the bottom inch or 2 and following the lines of the existing haircut. Because trimming hair is the most basic skill in hairstyling, I can't understand why anyone would charge more just because your hair is longer. Unless your hair is very unruly or extra curly and they have to do something extra to get it under control, I don't think this is justified.

I would have questioned why they're charging you extra for such a basic service, then decline the trim and let them know that you've never been charged extra for a trim of long hair.

Well since i used to work at a hair salon i can answer this for you. Yes, depending on the length of your hair the fee will be different. This is just how it is at most hair salons. The shorter the hair the cheaper it is. Also, as far as color goes, it depends on what color your hair is and what color you are trying to make it. If you have black hair and want to go blonde it will cost more than say if a light brown haired person tried to go blonde. This is because it is harder to lighten the hair and it takes more product to do so. It also takes longer to do your hair. I do not agree with it sometimes but it does work this way.

If your hair is only 2 inches from the scalp it is much easier to cut than someone who has hair to the middle of their back!

It relies upon.......I worked at a salon with this coverage. Our haircuts the position very genuine looking- or maybe as it includes coping with someone who has quite some hair, it may take two times even 3 or 4 cases as a lot attempt and time! It would not look honest to someone who basically needs a haircut- yet understand in a salon- time is money. Now, I easily have worked in yet another salon in which there replaced right into a flat fee for men AND for women people- yet that fee replaced into critically larger! you're then identifying to purchase the expertise of a pro with stepped ahead preparation, who instruments thier criteria at opt for fee. this is as a lot as you in identifying on what's a rip off. in case you acquire an astonishing haircut and also you're able to have adequate money it- did you quite get ripped off? AND sure....ANY cost should be delivered on your interest previous to provider no matter if this is for lengthy hair, conditioning remedies, styling provider, etc....

I have always hated this! I grow my hair out really long, cut it off and donate it. It costs me the same amount to get a trim as it does to cut off the pony and have a completely new style cut into the shorter hair. It is totally rediculous, especially because the trim takes like 20 minutes, while the style takes almost 90!

definetly a rip off.And when my hair wasn't even that long, just to my shoulders, they still charged me 40 euros, this is in ireland. Its 20 euros for short hair.

Whats the difference? There is no difference, they're still cutting ot trimming 1 line across. It doesnt matter that the hair is long, that doesnt mean they cut anymore or do a better job than with short hair

Well I have been coloring my hair blonde regarding a long time now. It's not black but a dark brown. The actual main reason I do this will be to hide the gray hairs that my kids are starting to provide me. I trying to hide my age.

totally rip off. thats ridiculas i think. if they do that, they should take off the amount for people w/ really thin or short hair.

they say its a matter of how much harder it is to trim when its soo long? well fine, charge 2 dollars extra, i don't think its worth the extra 8!!!
