Uh, no. It is not normal and you don't eat them. They are kept as pets. 23 is a lot of crabs, I wonder what he was thinking? They can be kept in an aquarium or some sort of tank with sand and spare shells to grow into. There is a hermit crab food made for them, and I have heard that you keep a wet sponge in their tank for them to get water out of. If you are serious about keeping some of them (I wouldn't try to keep all 23!), I would get a book at my local book store, pet store or public library to learn how to properly care for them. I would have a serious talk with my husband to find out why he thought these were a good gift. I would much rather receive jewelry, perfume, or maybe a gift certificate to the nail salon! If my husband gave me crabs for any occasion (or no occasion) he wouldn't live long enough to regret it, lol.

When my wife was alive, I would give her the money, a card about how much I loved her, buy her a corsage and take her out for dinner and where ever else (theater/movie) - it would be her choice of restaurant and the afterward. Not knowing what she needed or wanted, I felt that my course of action would suffice, along with not forgetting to say how much I loved her.

Hey, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! What I would do if I had 100 dollars is by myself some make-up, clothes or maybe some jewelry. By yourself something that would make you use everyday.
