What ever happened to Goldwater Republicans?

About 25 years ago they were predominately the party of fiscal conservatism and small unintrusive government.

Then they transformed into the party of social conservatism to pander to the religious nut jobs.

Exactly. Why does the Republican party now favor water boarding? Was it Eisenhower (a republican) who prosecuted Japanese soldiers and condemned them to death, for the same thing done to our soldiers in WWII? Why does the Republican party now favor spying on it's citizens? Why does the party of Lincoln so hated by blacks, and so against programs like affirmative action? Why is the republican party now so in love with free trade that it subsidizes countries that relocate, and sells off our assets to foreign governments? Why didn't the republican party, when it was in office, cut spending? Why did it decide to become the world's policeman, and elect an idiot like George Bush? George Bush couldn't string two sentences together!

This Goldwater Republican became a Democrat. I'll stay that way until I can get my old party back.

They are crying out in pain because of the damage the PNAC has inflicted on the party. Never, never, never again will vote for any republican. Not even for animal control officer, aka dog catcher.

Republicans have been hijacked by fascist neo-con fascists just like the democrats have been hijacked by communists. Neither party is worth fighting for anymore because neither of them believes in limiting government in any fashion. Both provide lots of lip service to that effect and their constituents want it but neither has any intention of delivering anything other than expansion of government telling you how to live your life.

The party has split between conservatives and moderates. They are holding together, but not very well.

they are extinct. it began with Nixon and CREEP, and then directly to Reagan on all the way down to Bush Sr and Lee Atwater. the less pronounced approximately Rove, the greater effective. they purely grew to become greater ruthless approximately prevailing in any respect expenses. once you start up down the path of the " ends justify the potential" it finally leads to ruthlessness.
