well ask GW Bush that question hes the one responsible . He does not have the interests of the American people in mind. Bush's family have made their money from oil so did our VP . They want the oil prices high so they can profit from the American people .
How do we fix it? IDK , we can protest , elect a better prez, hold our current prez accountable and start questioning his moves . We can stop buying gas as much .protest to the gas companies.

Our economy is not in a recession, which is defined as "two consecutive quarters of economic decline [as measured by GDP per capita, etc,]" and my life gets better every day. Honestly, I don't know anyone who thinks that his or her life gets worse every day. Sure, the price of gasoline is increasing, but this is a blessing in disguise as it will hopefully force people into being more conservative with their use of natural resources, which will help reduce pollution and improve the quality of the environment, hopefully. Sure, there is a war going on, but to be honest, there has been a war going on during EVERY single presidency since the Second World War... it's part of our culture, and while I'm not defending it, it doesn't mean that the US is going downhill. It does mean, however, that there is a LOT of room to improve.

What gives you these feelings of concern and terrible wrong? In what ways are our lives getting worse; because we have given up the freedom to chose the situation we are in? Have we lost all responsibility for ourselves as a country? What are you willing to sacrifice for the welfare of our country? What will you do to protect my or your rights?
We, the people, of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union must in times of dire resources and resolve, rely on the truth that is our right and reason: we control the laws and government that is in place to protect us in such times. If we feel vulnerable and weak, if we are filled with self-pity and discontent, we must realize our opportunity to mend the situation and and return to a posture of sound justice, welfare and liberty. This is not done through petty strife, rather through courage and support.
I challenge you, if you really care about this country, to go about your day and just consider your actions. Every simple thing you do contributes a positive or negative impact on the world.

The USA is a country that exercises/practices Capitalism. As long as money is the foundation we shall continue to suffer the woes of it. It is fixed when the government becomes more concerned about the people than the money.

"Naturally, the common people don't want war, but they can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and endangering the country. It works the same in every country."

Hitler's Reichsmarschall at the Nuremberg Trials
Does that sound familiar?

The selfishness of the majority. Example? You didnt eve name your country in your description. I'm not trying to offend, but the way people are brought up in North American culture has very much to do with personal gain, and very little to do with political and ethical awareness. It sounds really hippie-ish, but we ha to teach people to think about their country as a whole, and not just the good of themselves. The government usually takes the heat for a country's problems but they came from th sme place yuo did, and they were voted in by the same people who complain about them.

Growth through adversity is happening. For the sake of the good people I pray it gets much worse. I won't have to pray too hard. The cream will rise to the top and the rest will be fed to pigs.

Well I don't live in the USA. maybe that's why I can see the problem.
The problem is: "that you think that there is a problem"
Hehe.
Also I am reading many things and I think ur people is becoming too (extra too) passive.
U have to be brave people like the one preceed you.
If your ancestors saw you they would kill you.
Think they died for you and lived to create something much bigger than they.
AND THAT ALL WAS FOR YOUUU.
**** UP. !!
