Should we end the war in Iraq or finish the job?

There are pros and cons, as far as this war in Iraq goes. Everyone knows that staying in Iraq is costly, for one, our borders have become weak due to mass casualties, and our nation has racked up an enormous amount of debt. On the other hand, you have those that believe that we should finish the job that Bush started. Some say that we are actually making progress in Iraq in addition to weaking Al Queda. Do you think we should withdraw and end it, or finish the job?

finish what job. look if we havent won and are done in over 5 years then we should give up. ya we have stopped a lot of terrorists. but at what cost? the cons list is miles longer than the pros. we really dont even know what the job is to be honest. one report says it to get the terrorists and another says its to establish government in iraq or peace in the middle east. but i havent seen any of them be successful and in 5 years a trillion dollars and thousands of us dead and millions of there civilians dead i think we should call it quits.

within 3 years in korea we took all of south and all of north korea. ya we got shoved back by the chinese but still in 3 years we beat an entire nation. and in 5 years we cant beat a group of radicals. i mean how many can actually be in this group. if there not down enough for them to surrender or be captured then its not going to happen. (we need iron man over there). we should just admit defeat and let them fix themselfs. after we won south korea and japan we poured money into them and they took off and are great nations now. if we would just do that with iraq we would be fine but we try to run it and thats failing us.

What if? Look, there are never any guarantees when you go to war. We could have had a different turn of events in WWII. But one thing that was different then from now is that both parties set aside there differences and pulled together in a united front to win the war. Unlike today where the minority party, while first started out in a united effort, quickly turned against the mission to play politics in order to get back power. That was the "mistake' with Vietnam. We never lost any major battles militarily in Vietnam, we lost it in politics. Anyway, I haven't seen any evidence that the Iraqi people are without resolve, and that is what will make a huge difference in the end.

Everyone agrees that the invasion of Iraq was a mistake and that it has been mishandled. But the reality is that Iraq was an enemy of Iran and being their neighbor managed to keep Iran in check in the middle east. Leaving Iraq now would mean that Iran will be able to exert too much influence in the region and that Iraq will most likely be an ally of Iran just like Syria and Lebanon. Now that we've started this mess, it has to be cleaned up. Retreating from a war is not wise policy, and even Obama is starting to backpeddle on his promise to withdraw by saying it may take 18 months and that it will be up to the generals.

Wait a minute...I thought the reason we are there is to establish a "shining light of democracy" in the middle east. That's what we've been told anyway, right?

So let me get this straight. We're there to establish a democracy in Iraq.

The people of Iraq are not under control of a dictator.

They have voted on and live under a citizen-approved Constitution.

They have a democratically elected government (parliment, President, etc...).

Sounds like a democracy to me!

The job IS finished. Bring the troops home.

I like the answer, how do you finish a complete lie?

    It can not be finished.

We couldn't finish it in Vietnam

We can't finish it in Iraq for the same reason.

Nor can we end the war.

As Colin Powell warned Bush, once you invade, you bought the problem.

The best we can do is give them back their country, and let them sort it out.

If the invasion was warranted, which it wasn't, the proper thing would have been, to go in, kick their ***, then get out and tell them in no uncertain terms, if they didn't get their house in order, we'd be back and do it worse. Then offer to help them, buy their oil, and get them back to a resemblance of normalcy, instead of, what could possibly be, decades of occupation while trying to keep our form of government in there.

    We are so dumb.

Finish the job. My husband just got back and has seen it firsthand and he is adamant that 1. we don't leave because if we do then the Iraqi people that are innocent will suffer from genocide. 2. we are weakening Al Qaeda. 3. We are still stopping terrorist attacks, despite what the media tells you. 4. Most of the Iraqi civilians are stepping up now and helping the US and are very appreciative that the troops are there.

    Finish the job.

Finish the job. Remember when we pulled out of Viet Nam? The mass hysteria and killing the last day? It would be a blood bath for our soldiers trying to leave the country. Stay and finish the job!!

Finish the job will cost trillions of dollars. Four more years of war will sky-racket the gas price to more than 10 dollars a gallon.

Finally finish the job will take 100 years.
