He had great leadership skills and was well respected, and was an excellent player on the ice.

The big mistake most people make is assuming that Captain's are the best players on their team. That is why I don't feel Crosby is ready to have the "C" on his jersey. Of course he needs it for all of the publicity photos he takes, but that's neither here nor there. Norstrom was a great leader, and that is the responsibility of the captain. He was definately dedicated, hell I heard he wore his skates two sizes too small to stay alert! Ouch!

Captains are not necessarily the most skilled player on the team. Norstrom was a warrior. He lead by example. The guy was a hard worker one most players should play like.

I agree Crosby does not deserve to have the "C" in Pittsburgh. The captain is supposed to be the main guy to talk to the refs and lead a team. How can a pre-pubescent boy lead a team? All he does is whine to the refs and if I was Gary Roberts, Sergei Gonchar or any of the other 80% of that team that is older than Sid the KID, I would not follow his lead.

He was a great leader that's why. Sure he didn't put up the points like other players, but he was still a great player and a great leader. I think Blake once said he was the "core and soul of the team" when he was captain in LA.

Either the team elected him to be Captain or he was appointed the Captain by the coach!

He was on the KINGS. Who cares who had the "C"? The Kings were mediocre at best. A fan in the front row could have had the "C" and it wouldn't have changed anything.
