Mixed fabrics.........did you know?
that the prohibition against wearing mixed fabrics represented to the Hebrews that they were not supposed to mix or intermarry with the Gentiles, and that when Jesus came he abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain (Hebrew and Gentile) one new man,
Now I know that you legalists out there are going to complain about shellfish, and I don't mean those who believe in God either, but then, you're just opting out of reflecting on God's awesome character if you do.

No, I didn't know this.

Understand what you say to be accurate about the fabrics.
[edit] What that person was referring to. I've heard of it but it is not anything I've heard preached in any church I've attended.

Do you understand the full purpose of the law? Not only to give us living rules to go by but maybe more importantly to SHOW us what sin is? Until the law, there was no way that God could justify punishment for sin by mankind. Even in the Garden, God had to tell them what NOT to do in order to be just in administering punishment.
(While they were in the wilderness many of those laws were necessary for basic survival ensuring they would increase in numbers enough to "replenish" the earth or populate it so more and more people would know God's name.)
I'm not a legalist but Jesus never did away with the law. Jesus said:
"17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved."
Matthew 5:16-18 (New Living Translation)
Are we not still referring to the laws? No, we are not "under them" IF we know what sin is but how many continue to sin in ignorance of what God says is sin by HIS standards? A great number of people some of which ARE calling themselves Christians and some really are but someone told them that law ("a sin-o-meter") doesn't matter since Jesus came once they are saved. That is NOT what Jesus said nor did He ever imply that the law was no longer of effect. We still have to know what is or is not sin by God's standards.
We have free will to choose but as I said in another response about the health laws, "Father knows best." If in Christ we won't go to Hell for breaking the health laws but we may perish for illness and disease which is why God set those laws to begin with: to keep us healthy and well as He desired. ("Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." )
[3 John 2 KJV]
Then we choose. Blessings.

Example: Children of Israel had lived in captivity in Egypt for hundreds of years under the leadership of the Pharaoh living by THOSE laws: incest was okay and many other things. Once they left, they had to be told this is wrong, don't do this, don't do that. You think we don't have the same situation today??? If so, think again.
Seriously, watch a "judge show", Jerry Springer, the NBC Nightly News, and that's just out of the US... there are MANY in the world doing things commonplace that they don't KNOW is sin because they have not received the Gospel of the Kingdom nor do they know the name of Jesus or who God is.
[edit] Look, before Jesus gave us a way to salvation, man had to try to keep all those laws to TRY to become righteous in God's eyes. It was impossible to do; then Jesus made the way to salvation. THAT is what it means to not be "under the law." That doesn't mean okay get saved and do whatever you want because you're not under the law anymore. God gave us the laws and commandments for our own good. Jesus didn't do away with them. Perhaps that's an easier way to say it than I did above.

All the old Jewish laws, the ones that seem really odd, not the Ten Commandments, had a spiritual meaning behind such as that.
God bless!
