Is the Corporate Media an absolutely worthless source of objective News Reporting?

America's biggest, most important news organizations have, over the past 25 years, fallen prey to merger after merger, acquisition after acquisition... to the point where they are, now, tiny parts of immeasurably larger corporate entities - entities whose primary business often has nothing to do with news. Entities that may, at any given time, have literally hundreds of regulatory issues before multiple arms of the government concerning a vast array of business interests.

These are entities that, as publicly-held and traded corporations, have as their overall, reigning mandate: Provide a return on shareholder value. Increase profits. And not over time, not over the long haul, but quarterly.

One might ask just where the news fits into this model. And if you really need an answer, you can turn on your television, where you will see the following:

Political analysis reduced to in-studio shouting matches between partisans armed with little more than the day's talking points.

    Interesting article

I agree, news corporations are becoming monolopies , there are very few individually owned & operated news sources.

It's so obvious how some major news corporations misinform the public, are biased, edit & promoted news and manipulate it according to what's in their best interest.

I think I'm smart enough now, not to believe anything that in the news and to look at what's said objectively , one of the best ways I find is to go to other sources, internet is excellent for this are get info from many different sources , after a while you get a pretty good idea where the truth lies.

The media corporations have a responsibilty to the public, because they are in a position of power, they can literally create riots in the street, by the message they broadcast and yet they do as they please, and without any control mechanisms in place.

I think it's wrong & dangerous the way they currently operate!

Here's an example: say a major news corporation reported news on a run of some other company, now that companies shares could plumment!. if was proven that the news did it with intent or based on fabricated facts - then they should be accountable!

Yes, and when we get some leadership in the White House finally perhaps we can work on the "Fairness" thing with the FCC. Apparently republicans were able to kill that over the past 30 years, and that's why we have abominations like FOX "News".

And the very funniest thing about FOX is that it's "Fair and Balanced" - they got that lie on there from the very beginning because they knew it was bullsh*t.

Time to put them out of business and off the air.

Yes and what's worse some who drape themselves in the flag of "alternative voices" are nothing more than voices of the corporate Democrats but manage to fool progressive Americans anyway

The only unbiased reporters that actually understand their subjects well enough to make intelligent comments and reasonably accurate predictions are sportscasters.

*** Dan Rather? Objective? He's one of the most biased know-nothings in the country.

Only Fox Cable News is worthless. They are biased to the right ring and show it all the time. They are probably owned by the right wing to spread their deception.

"absolutely worthless" just does not do justice as to how far down the toilet corporate media has taken journalism.

In general yes, but there are some objective persons like Dan Rather.

All news outlets have an agenda. I trust corporate media more than most, simply because they usually have democrats and republicans, liberals and conservatives, on their boards.

Source(s): Take your link, for example. I have been around long enough to know that when someone says, "Trust me." they are usually lying through their teeth. So when you send a link like "truthout" I am willing to bet it is a pack of lies, or at the very least, slanted to their way of thinking.
