For the Jews: Why do you get "upset" when Askers refer to Messianic Jews or Jews For Jesus?

******No offense is intended. This is a serious question.******

I don't understand because, I'm thinking they still have their Jewish culture, many traditions, heritage, and, of course, Semitic bloodlines. How are they no longer Jews (as is often stated by Jews)? I am African American (and other), there is nothing I could ever do to change who and what I am no matter what I believed.

This is an earnest question. It's not an attempt to ruffle any feathers. Often when those two groups are mention, there are comments from Jews who seem to be "upset" stating they are not Jews.

***Messianic Jews and Jews for Jesus your answers are welcome. And a question: Can you explain what changes take place in routine life outside of the obvious worship, belief, etc.?***

Thank you in advance.

x

Update:

*Did I say "upset?" Well, I asked...

__________

> "by your logic, palestinian muslims could be called jews."

Not exactly but if we want to get "technical" and logical and all that... Abraham's seed. I'll say nothing more on that but continue reading.

I asked a "serious" question.

Update 2:

Mark S > Doing vs. being Jewish /paraphrase

Whoa! Please, I can FEEL the heat! I'm trying to learn something here. How do we know if we don't ask?

I can stop doing black all day long but I'm still black at the end of the day.

As for the lst century church, those Jews did not call themselves Christians, in fact, it was a name they accepted since they were being called that anyway. There was a difference of opinion among aposltes--"Acts 15 Council" wherein some wanted Gentiles to "become Jewish" by way of circumscision in order to be saved/accept Christ... They STILL considered themselves Jews. JESUS WAS BORN AND DIED A JEW HE WAS NEVER A CHRISTIAN! He did not follow "Himself." So I still don't "get it." I'll read further. Thanks.

Update 3:

> "To profess any other name but that is to be lost to God…For where there is Christianity there cannot be Judaism.”

Question: If someone who IS Jewish writes "God" instead of G-d, has that person stopped at least momentarily "doing" Jewish? Serious question again.

Update 4:

So the Viking has put Christianity in the same category as Satanism, i.e., basically the worst possible thing one can be who believes in a God in Heaven. My, my, my. And THAT was being nice? That's certainly telling. I won't ask what you think about Christians in general--you've already given an indication. Thanks to Jesus, I'm a forgiver with tolerance.

For the record: Correction Christians believe in ONE GOD, a triune God. That's t-r-i-u-n-e. Boil and egg. Peel it. Split it in half. An the shell, white and yolk are "a trinity." t-r-i-n-i-t-y.

You are very OVERT with your nice as possible insults.

-----

> "I think you are confusing Jewish by heritage and a practicing Jew."

No I'm not confusing anything. I asked WHY Jews get upset. I see now that I should have used the word "hostile."

I meant NO disrespect yet that is all I have gotten simply for trying to educate myself about something that you haven't made clear up to this point.

---

God bless you all.

Update 5:

> "Although i am sad that people can believe such garbage as the Messianc Jews preach. I have no real problem with the people."

If that "garbage" is the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, perhaps I should say: Father, forgive him for he knows not what he is doing."

Update 6:

Perhaps those links were to cause anger of Christians towards those saved Jews, by their own reference, but it is understandable. God is not finished with ANY of us yet and the Holy Spirit IS the Teacher. They once believed that Jesus was not the Son of God but they were enlightened. It ain't over till it's over.

I still love the seed of Abraham because upon being adopted into the family of God, I too became a Jew by way of the Spirit of God. Many to most Christians consider themselves as referred to in the New Testament as spiritual seed of Abraham. Some faiths may reject that and it's okay, they rejected our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jews for Jesus and Messianic Jews, Jesus told us that we would be hated for His namesake. You are on the right path OBVIOUSLY. Welcome to the Family.

Update 7:

HERE'S THE THING: I ask a question but in because I wanted to know the answer. I don't have any contact with those who refer to themselves as "Messianic Jews" or "Jews for Jesus." I've notice on Y/A a lot of negative posts from Jews towards those or like groups so I asked why. Rather than simple tell me why, I received many anwers that also contained what I consider as a Christian blasphemous remarks about Christ, The Holy Spirit and Father God whom I worship. It is my faith. I did NOT ask your feelings towards Christianity BUT I got a lot of that. Which to me is VERY telling also. I see absolutely NO reason for you to disrespect my faith in the process of answering the question but because the two are not the same. I have not disrespected the Jewish faith but I see HORRID things being written about the Holy Trinity. WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH MY ORIGINAL QUESTION. [All caps for emphasis only.]

Update 8:

Cher JPA > "I have to wonder though. You say a serious question... But then you argue with and dismiss everyone's answer. It doesn't seem your really looking to understand the answer. I assume you'll dismiss mine too? I hope not. I hope you are starting to see what's bothersome about this?"

Haven't dismissed anything but have digested ALL and it has been QUITE a lot--too much said AGAinst the Christian faith doctrinally and still no real answer to my original question(s). See comments I've copied below:

- "the basic and most damning difference is that the jews never believed that their messiah would be the son of god, and jesus fulfilled none of the prophecies"

- "... Judaism means ONE God - no belief in a divine messiah, or a holy spirit, or any other manifestation."Let me make this very simple: JESUS IS IRRELEVANT TO JUDAISM"

- "Your faith is based on misinterpretations of mine."

-

Update 9:

More comments against Christian doctrine that has nothing to do with the question(s) I asked:

- "Just like a satanist is not a Christian."

- "Alienation and panic induction are tricks that Christians used in the past against different religions. But its not going to work any more."

- "Although i am sad that people can believe such garbage ..."

- "So now your god condones lying, spiritual blackmail, and the purposeful extermination of his chosen people?"

- "Christian lies do not deter me any longer."

[ALL from one user - basically anti-Christian statements]

- "How many times must this ? be asked & despite answers from Jewish people Christians can't get it?!?

It would be blasphemous for any believer of Judaism to worship any G-D but one

Jesus did not fufill ANY of the prophisies therefore

He's totally irelevant to Judaism..

Unlike Christianity where only believers in Christ will be saved..Find that arrogant & smug.."

Update 10:

One more:

- "The Torah and the Talmud make it extremely clear that Judaism means ONE God - no belief in a divine messiah, or a holy spirit, or any other manifestation."

Christians worship ONE triune God, the gospel is not garbage or a lie, etc. It is apparent to me that your disapproval and/or hatred of Christian doctrine is so pervasive that you cannot separate your everyday Christian from those whom I asked about. Your responses contained a lot against Christ. You may not even realize it and I hold no ill feelings towards anyone of the Jewish faith but I cannot NOT tell you that it IS telling. Also no Christian is born but must be RE-born by making a decision and a choice. I do not regret mine but I truly regreat that the Truth that I have faith in causes Answerers so much anger that you cannot be objective about the question(s) I posted above. I'm done. Shalom.

Update 11:

ps For the one who wants to know "how many times" this question will be asked. Hopefully, as many times as it takes for some understanding to come to those who are asking.

For the record, I am still fairly new to Y/A and THIS was my first and last time asking this question of Jewish members for the reasons stated in my last edit.

I ain't mad at ya! Again, Shalom.

We get "upset" because they distribute their literature from door to door with the intentions of bringing in Jews who believe what they're selling has something to do with their own religion.

They are bent on the destruction of the Jewish people in order to further their own agenda. How would Christians feel about Muslims corralling their children in groups to teach them about the wonders of Islam? How would Christians feel about it if Muslims were the vast majority with only a few Christians scattered about?

Why do they treat their holy books with such contempt by forcing them on people who have no interest? Why do they litter with their fliers, etc. It was only a few weeks ago when Jews in Israel were condemned by the International Community for destroying "new" testaments forced on them by the messianics. I've had many leaflets forced on me here in the U.S., but no one has ever treated their holy books so disrespectfully by leaving them where they're not wanted. Yet in Israel, Jews are condemned for destroying them. What would you have them do? Add them to their libraries?

I don't know much about the specifics of the group. I know this is a hot topic for a lot of jews though who don't like the fact that they use the term "jews" in their title. Personally I don't see what the issue is. The groups are always very clear that they are messianic, which of course, makes them different from them saying they are just plain jews and then springing the Jesus thing. To me, "messianic jew" means a christian who keeps many of the tenants and traditions of the torah, whereas regular christians do not. So I think the jews who have the problem with the term "jews for jesus" or "messianic jew" are over reacting.

How many times must this ? be asked & despite answers from Jewish people Christians can't get it?!?

I believe you being an African American would be upset & yes hostile to those wanting to deprive you of your rich culture...

It would be blasphemous for any believer of Judaism to worship any G-D but one..Jews don't believe in the concept of original sin or that anyone can be saved through blood sacrifice..We're judged by our actions here on this earth & not preoccupied by the hereafter..

Jesus did not fufill ANY of the prophisies therefore Jews will never accept him..He's totally irelevant to Judaism..And our Moshiach will not be a G-D but a rightous human who'll bring peace to the entire world..Unlike Christianity where only believers in Christ will be saved..Find that arrogant & smug..

One who believes in Jesus yet professses to be Jewish is an apostate..You can't be both! The messianics & J4J deceptively say their both in order to try converting Jews so why not detest them? If you're sincerely interested in what we believe check out the following sites..

Why: Because it's like having a little brother copycat you. (imitate our traditions) Then call you a liar. (reject our beliefs.)

Messianic Christianity started with conferences in the early 1900s to figure out why Jews refused to convert. They started purposely calling themselves Jewish as a con job to trick Jews so they could then slide in and convert them. More recently J4J has paid huge bucks, Millions, per year for hard sell tactics targeted at big Jewish population areas.

You won't be upset at con men, and liars, and extreme manipulative sales tactics to pick off your young and vulnerable.

Be Christian. I have respect for that, and have many friends I like, and see how it's been good for them spiritually.

The upset is with the same kind of stuff that you would be upset about, it they were targeting your bank account. It's not hard to understand when you think of it that way. --- Targeting separating your kids from their money with extreme sales tactics and outright manipulation, and then calling foul that you're being unfair to them.

    ----

I have to wonder though. You say a serious question... But then you argue with and dismiss everyone's answer. It doesn't seem your really looking to understand the answer. I assume you'll dismiss mine too? I hope not. I hope you are starting to see what's bothersome about this?

    ----

P.S I might have missed something in your question. Very few of MCs were ever Jewish (not rasied nor born to Jewish mom). They aren't Jews who believe in Christianity. They are Christians who are imitating Jewish behaviors.

"thank you in advance"??? For what? You asked and answered your own question and not what you want to hear is affirmation. Let me make this very simple: JESUS IS IRRELEVANT TO JUDAISM. I'm sorry for the caps but I was trying to make a point. Jews who accept Jesus as their savior and a part of a trinity are no longer Jews; they are apostates and as such cannot take part of any Jewish rituals or ceremonies. You may not like that, but that doesn't make it untrue. This is what Jews believe. The Messianic movement was started by a Baptist minister and it is a blatant attempt to convert Jews to Christianity.

Because Messianic "Jews" are disgusting creatures whose purpose is to convert real Jews. Very few of them were ever Jewish to begin with, and the ones that were don't want to own up to the fact that they've left behind thousands of years of history and culture to join a mangod because it "feels good" so they pretend they're still practicing Judaism.

JEW is NOT A RACE. It's a people, and when you choose to start practicing Christianity, you automatically renounce your right to be a part of our nation.

Messianic "Jews" and "Jews" for Jesus are doing exactly what Hitler tried to do - kill off the Jewish people.

Read through Michelle R's answer carefully. It's the best one you've gotten.

    __________________________________

As per your further edits: you are not a Jew. You believe in a mangod that sacrificed his human body to save mankind through his blood. That is not only disgusting, it's also against every basic tenet of Judaism.

Your faith is based on misinterpretations of mine. I have met three Christians who converted to Judaism after learning Hebrew and reading the Tanakh. Once the misinterpretations are gone, so is Christianity.

  • 1 decade ago

Because Judaism is not a race.

Anyone who says you can be Jewish and also accept Jesus as being in any way divine, is someone who is basically saying that once you have a drop of Jewish blood, you are forever Jewish.

That thinking led to the Holocaust, among other tragedies. Practicing Christians were put into ovens because they had one Jewish grandparent.

As an African-American, I am sure you understand that. Anyone who said someone with a drop of black blood is black - and then attacked them, no matter what "color" their skin was - would be a racist. If a biracial or multiracial person doesn't self-identify as black, I don't see how it would be okay for anyone - ESPECIALLY not someone white - to insist that they were. And especially not when it came to laying out punishments.

That is how Jews feel about J4J. It doesn't matter to them that the Jewish religion is extremely clear about what Jews can and can't believe to remain members of the tribe. All that matters to them is that Jewish blood. It doesn't matter if you accept Jesus - you'll always be a Jew! That is racist thinking. Jews reject it.

Let me put it one more way - back during the Spanish Inquisition (among many other times of great governmental attacks on Jews), a Jew had two choices - become a Christian, or be killed. If all you had to do was accept Jesus as your savior, but you could still be considered Jewish, thousands of Jews would have taken that route to save their own lives. Seems like the perfect solution, right? So why is it that tens of thousands of Jews died horrible painful deaths? Why is it that the handful who defied the edict did so by becoming "Conversos" - people who pretended to convert to Christianity but kept Judaism in secret, raised their kids as Jews as best they could, and risked death if they were discovered to be faking it? Why didn't they become "messianic Jews" to save their own lives? Because they knew that there is no such thing. That you could not casually embrace the trinity or Jesus and still be a Jew in G-d's eyes.

Jews for Jesus was started by Baptists. Not Jews. Most Messianic churches are over 50% Christians by birth, with no Jewish heritage. They understand that the idea of being a Jew who believes in Jesus is so repugnant to the Jewish community that they need to use subterfuge to make their religion seem to be viable. But all they are preaching is that Jews who know it would be wrong to convert to Christianity can do the important part of converting - being saved - and keep whatever aspects of Judaism they feel like. It's cynical. Like starting an organization for white people called The New African Americans, with a few white South Africans (after all, they're from Africa and live in America now, so technically they're African American), and using the group to recruit whites with any black ancestry (or none) to lobby for taking away civil rights. It would be the same.

So are Jews angry about J4J? Yes. Hostile when they pretend to "not understand" our issues with the group? Also yes.

Why? Because we do not want to have the definition of who is a Jew defined by people who are not Jews. Not by the Messianic church, not by Hitler, not by anyone. Not even by people who were born Jewish, who never had this explained to them and were taken advantage of by a religious movement that has no problem lying to them about Jewish scripture to make their case. The Torah and the Talmud make it extremely clear that Judaism means ONE God - no belief in a divine messiah, or a holy spirit, or any other manifestation. And Jews believe in the Torah.

    That's why.

  • 1 decade ago

I'm going to be as nice as possible.

Lets put it this way. If I celebrated Christmas as the Birth of Satan.

    Would I be a Christian?

even the few confused Jews that follow the Messianics and "Jews for Jesus" are no longer "Jewish".

Its a contradiction. If you believe in Jesus, then you are Christian. it doesn't matter that you used to be Jewish. You are no longer practicing Judaism. (The Torah does not support multiple deities. And Jesus is certainly a second deity.

Just like a satanist is not a Christian.

The reason Jews get upset is becuase the Messianics are an attempt to exterminate Judaism. The founder of "Jews for Jesus" said so himself.

Its a baptist attempt to destroy the religion.

Its a lie used to coerce young naive Jews, and older vulnerable Jews.

They purposefully target these people, and attempt to brainwash them with lies. ( i have heard them preach myself. and the slag that comes from their mouths makes me want to hurl.)

It is a disgusting attempt to destroy a tradition. It is not much different then what The Nazi party intended to do. The only difference is the Nazis had the guts to be honest and were psycho enough to push further.

As a friend of the Jews I get involved becuase they deserve my help.

We act the way we do towards questions about Messianics becuase its the only strategy that seems to work.

i guess it runs in my blood. Im scandanavian in ancestry. Although my blood has not seen its home in over 500 years i can not help but be proud of my people.

when the Germans invaded Norway and sweeden and attempted to exterminate the Jews living in those countries The people fought back and resisted on behalf of their neighbors and friends. as desperate and futile as it was they never gave up or stopped fighting.

I like to think I am doing my part in this new struggle. And a struggle this is. The Baptists are specifically targeting Jews. So long as they do so I will stand in their way.

Just like I am proud to stand against the west boro baptists.

Alienation and panic induction are tricks that Christians used in the past against different religions. But its not going to work any more.

Source(s): Although i am sad that people can believe such garbage as the Messianc Jews preach. I have no real problem with the people. So now your god condones lying, spiritual blackmail, and the purposeful extermination of his chosen people? I know what I am talking about. Christian lies do not deter me any longer.
  • 1 decade ago

by your logic, palestinian muslims could be called jews.

the real jews have been very clear and specific: judaism is a religion, not a nationality or racial identity. the basic and most damning difference is that the jews never believed that their messiah would be the son of god, and jesus fulfilled none of the prophecies. the old testament is not an accurate translation of the jewish writings.

Source(s): paperback writer and other r&s jews.
  • 1 decade ago

As a Christian, the Jews in Judaism really surprised me how offended they are when Christians call Messianic Jews or Jews for Jesus 'Jews'.

I have debated this issue with paperback much. And the emails left on a better note.

Too often they were thumbing me down or reporting me for this.

As a Christian, Judaism contradicts the New Testament & the Law & Prophets of the Old Testament. But Judaism has some beautiful celebrations, etc... from Jewish heritage. So is beautiful, except the antichrist part.

But Jesus was Jewish & crucified for blaspheme. And in the bible Christians have Jewish roots when they are born of God through faith in Jesus Christ. And Messianic Jews or Jews for Jesus, etc. are still Jewish. Just not to Jews in Judaism. Jews in Judaism are afraid this is idolatry to believe Jesus is the Son of God (Emanuel). But Jews who believe in Yeshua aren't in Judaism. They just believe & practice the Torah, plus believe in Yeshua as the Messiah.

I hope I don't get too many thumbs down with this answer. But if I do, then I am just being persecuted for Christ Righteousness sake & great is my reward. So I should be very glad.

I think the reason why Jewsin Judaism are getting their feathers ruffled over this is because we are entering a season (Gods divine timing). They are entering into a valley of decision. So much is happening with Israel's 60th birthday. And all around the world. So? The antichrist seeks to change the seasons & the times, etc... And this is done by persecuting the Jews & Christians.

    Examples:

    1. Moses was to be born, because it was nearing Gods Divine time to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage. The devil had all the males murdered to prevent Moses from being born.

    2. When the signs in the skys revealed the King of Israel was to be born, King Herod had the boys born at the sign of the stars (King of Israels birth) murdered.

    3. When Gods divine timing was to restor Israel 60yrs ago, written in Gods timing, calendars, stars, etc... Satan led Hitler to murder many Jews & Christians.

This is something new I just learned. And just makes me wonder. Jesus return is imminent.

Today is a season for something. With all that I am hearing in the news. And the revivals & healing miracles that are happening. And Gods Word (Gospel of Christ) getting to the unreachable & sometimes out of great calamity.
