It might have been gay in the 70's but now days it is more associated with gangs, crips where blue and bloods wear red if you wear a blue flag on the left side thats the crip side

Yes it is gay. It's called the hanky code. A lot of scene kids/hxc type of people wear it and I think it's kind of funny when they are flagging red. (red=fisting) All of the colors mean something. I don't think many people use the hanky code anymore except in the bdsm scene.

So, you could probably get away with wearing it anyway unless you are hanging in gay bars.

Your teacher is correct unfortunately for you, different coloured hankerchiefs represented different sexual fetishes so if you are not gay and don't want people to think you are then i'd make sure you keep it tucked in your pocket! Nothing wrong with being gay but if you aint gay then you aint gay.

Ummmm gangs do that so I don't beleive most people would take it that your gay but I'd be careful about wearing them because you could get jumped by a rival gang.

I have no idea. I wear them i m hair all the time in a wide variety of colors. But I have dreads and nothing else realy keeps them of my face but bandanas

It was inappropriate for your teacher to say that to you. Just because he was gay in the 70's does not mean "jack" now. Kids wear them now, and it's cool and it's "gangsta". If you like it; it's cool. Screw him. Wear your bandana, & if he says something to you again, tell him he is being inappropriate & bordering on harassment and watch him squirm.

I have no idea if it's a gay symbol, it seems more gangster to me, but you know do whatever you want too. If you think it looks cool then do it. And if it was a symbol in the 1970's then no one you go to school with was even alive then so they wouldn't know it was anything but a bandanna in your pocket
