Hey All, I am a 28 year old female and I have an amazing female partner of 4 1/2 years! We have one daughter who was born in October 2009! She is the love of our lives! We also love our animals! And I have had lots of different ones over the years. Right now, we have 1 dog, 2 cats, and 5 alpacas (with two pregnant females due in 2010, and one to be bred for a 2011 cria). I am a 3rd Degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo at All Star Martial Arts Academy in Fort Wayne, IN. I also hold belt ranks in Small Circle Jujitsu and Modern Arnis. And I feel I must admit I have become slightly addicted to YA! and from what I've seen it's a common problem! :-)

  • Pool Ring won't stay inflated - what about styrofoam?

I have an Intex pool with the blue inflatable ring that holds it up.

It must have a small hole somewhere because within an hour or so about 1/3 of the air is out and after two days it is more than half deflated. We have tried several methods to find the hole and we CANNOT find it. So we thought about cutting a hole and filling the ring with something like styrofoam packing peanuts.

Do you think it would work? Or do you have any other suggestions (other than buying a new pool)?

    Thanks in advance

  • Potty Training issues at Daycare?

Our daughter turns 2 this weekend. We have been potty training for 3 weeks and at home she is 95% there. She tells us when she has to go and most of the time just goes to her potty, takes her pants & underpants down, sits and pees...then she comes and tells us she did it so she can get her sticker. Only the occasional accident usually when we've been outside and haven't gotten her back to the potty in time.

Our issue is at daycare. In the 3 weeks since we started training she has only successfully gone once there. She has at least one "accident" every day. There are at least three other little ones potty training as well, so we believe she has plenty of opportunity. How do we get her to make the connection at daycare, like she obviously has at home?

  • How to clean a natural pond?

We have just bought a piece of property with a pond on it, I don't know the depth yet but we are planning to use our inflatable fishing boat to try get an idea on the depth. There are cat tail plants growing around the edge and algae on the surface near the edges. There are also fish in the pond though we don't know what kind, we only know they're there because we saw them come up and splash after bugs that were on the surface. We want the pond to look nice and continue to have fish in it. What is our first step? Just digging out the cat tails are skimming off the algae? What else do you recommend? We've heard about blue dyes and probiotics are these some things we should be looking in to?

    Here's a picture (don't know if it'll help)

  • What would you suggest as a fast-growing windbreak tree?

We live in North East Indiana (Zone 5 or 6, I think) and we're looking for fast growing trees to use as a windbreak along the one edge of our property. The top 1-2 feet of ground is a rich black soil and below that is tough grey clay.

We've heard that Quaking Aspen, Lombardy Poplar, Hybrid Poplar are all good choices....what do you think?

  • Martial Arts worksheet/project ideas?

We are implementing an extra (voluntary and free) program at our martial arts school, for students 12 and older, that focuses on having a good Attitude and Being a Role Model. We want them to do a worksheet for each section about a particular word and I need some help creating them or finding already made worksheets.

The words we are planning to use are:

    Attitude

    Teamwork

    Self-Discipline

    Courtesy

    Confidence

    Courage

    Appreciation

    Charity

    Achievement

Can anybody help point me in the right direction or give me some ideas for good questions (maybe short answer) that would be good to use or that you would like to see on a worksheet of this nature?!

  • How to do godparents without being member of a church?

My partner and I consider ourselves to be Christian but we do not go to any specific church, partly because we are a same sex couple and many churches have a problem with that. Our daughter was born 6 weeks ago and my partner's family really wants her to be baptized and given godparents, as everyone else in the family has had this done and it's kind of a family tradition, even though church going is not much of a family tradition. We don't have a problem assigning godparents (in a ceremonial way, in our eyes kind of just an honor position) as we have already picked my partner's younger brother and our best friend to fill the roles, but we don't know how to go about this. Since we don't go to a church is there any way to do this? I was never baptized, my partner was as an infant in England.

  • Is this enough/correct of a roof pitch?

For geographical reference we live in Southern Michigan. We are planning on building a storage shed that will be used as a shelter out in our pasture for our animals

The building will be 12 ft x 24 ft and for the roof we want the front height 8ft and the back height 6ft. So the roof will decrease 2ft over 12ft. Is this enough/correct roof pitch?

If not what would you suggest?

  • My Yahoo Widgets are not updating, how do I fix this?

The widgets on my desktop (like the weather) only update if I click "Close Widget" then go to the dock and reopen the widget. Is it because I rarely actually shut off the computer I only put it to sleep at night, when not in use? Or is there some setting I need to adjust?

I picked it up again this afternoon and started knitting again I've done 2 rounds and my stitches are on the wrong side!! My knit (V side) is on the purl (bumpy) side and the purl on the knit side! What did I do and how do I fix it? Is it hopeless? Am I gonna have to start over?! HELP!

  • What is the Best city in Connecticut for same-sex marriage?

My partner and I have been together for almost 4 years and our daughter will be born in November. Even though it is not legal here and won't be recognized here in Indiana (where we live) we would still like to get married soon. Which, in your opinion, is the best city in Connecticut or for us to get married?

    Thanks!

  • What to do about a Replacement Freezer Seal?

    Hello There,

We have an Old (1965 model) GE upright freezer. And yes it usually still works great! The problem is it frosts and freezes up (where we have to unplug and defrost it) every couple of months. The reason we see for this is that the door seal is not closing tightly (it's old and seems to be compressed/broken down). We have called around to several repair shops and they said that that particularly gasket was stopped being produced 2 years ago. I've also done internet searches to no avail. SO now what do we do?

We don't want to have to get a whole new freezer, but is there something else we can use to "build up" rubber seal or something to fix it? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Our baby names....What do you think?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and we don't know if it's a boy or girl yet but here's the names we have chosen. We love them and plan to use them but we're just curious what others think about them.

    BOY:

    Jaxen Dennis WIlliam Bond

(Jaxen we just love, Dennis is my father's name, WIlliam is a family name of my partner)

    GIRL:

    DeKaylee May Katherine Bond

(DeKaylee is a combo of my name and my partner's, May is my middle name as well as my mom's, and her grandmother's, and Katherine is my partner's name).

    GIRL:

We'd also like to use ______ Denise Allynn Bond but we can't figure out a first name to go with the two middle names (Dennis and Alan/Allen are our father's names and family names, so we wanted to use them)

So what do you guys think?

  • How soon to find out baby's gender?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and am going in for my OB appt this afternoon. Originally she wanted to wait till my next appt at 20 weeks, problem is because of the loss of my job and my health insurance (tomorrow is my last day at work) I am needing to switch to an OB who accepts Medicaid. Since I still have insurance today can I ask my OB to do an ultrasound to determine gender today? It'll be probably till week 23 for my next appt with a new OB, and we'd really like to know as soon as possible.

  • 17 weeks pregnant, laid off, applying for Medicaid?

    Hi All,

Ok, I'm 17 weeks pregnant with my first and just found out last week that I'm being laid off till at least January 2010 (could be permanent won't know till the end of the year...uggg!). Tomorrow is my last day, and I'll be losing my health insurance after then. I have a great OB but they do not accept medicaid so I have to switch to a new one. This afternoon will be my last appt with my current OB. I've been told it take 30-45 days to be approved for Medicaid here in Indiana, so what do I do about scheduling a new OB appt? Do I schedule one and then tell them my Medicaid is pending or do I have to wait until I'm officially approved? Help...I'm new to all this!

  • Pregnancy and Hepatitis C?

I am 27 years old and I have been recently diagnosed with Hepatitis C (contracted from a blood transfusion when I was born). It was found thru a routine pre-pregnancy blood test. My doctor said that if my liver biopsy comes back ok (a 1 or 2) then I will be allowed to get pregnant and give birth before having to go through the HepC treatment. How will this affect my unborn child, will they contract the disease too or are they somehow immune while in utero? Since this diagnosis is new to me I am stillsearching for info and learning what I can. Thanks for your input.

  • Help with House Training my older dog?

I have a 6 year old male Boxer that I have had since he was 7 months old. He has lived at my mom's house for the past 18 months (while I was going thru a divorce). There are 3 people living at my mom's that all had different schedules so he was let out every few hours day and night. Now he lives with me again since last friday and is crated during the day (while I'm at work). We have tried crating him at night but we're having problems.

First few nights no big deal he went in his crate easily with his "go to bed" command and a couple dog treats, but the last 2 nights he's gone to bed easily but a few short hours later he's been whining terribly!! He is let out for the last time at 10pm and then put to bed, the last 2 nights at 1:30am he has whined so much that we let him out and let him outside. Tuesday night he came back in and we let him lay on the floor in the bedroom, he was fine. Last night after he came back in, we again let him stay in the bedroom but woke up at 4am to him whining again and him having pooped on the floor by the door. SO what do we do?

If we leave him in the crate he cries and keeps us awake, but we can't have him pooping or peeing in the house. Should we have let him out and then put him back in his crate again or is there another method we should try?!

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
