Potty Training issues at Daycare?

Our daughter turns 2 this weekend. We have been potty training for 3 weeks and at home she is 95% there. She tells us when she has to go and most of the time just goes to her potty, takes her pants & underpants down, sits and pees...then she comes and tells us she did it so she can get her sticker. Only the occasional accident usually when we've been outside and haven't gotten her back to the potty in time.

Our issue is at daycare. In the 3 weeks since we started training she has only successfully gone once there. She has at least one "accident" every day. There are at least three other little ones potty training as well, so we believe she has plenty of opportunity. How do we get her to make the connection at daycare, like she obviously has at home?

The thing to remember is that there is alot going on at daycare and she will get distracted by playing with her friends.... what you are talking about is normal and does not mean she isnt "getting it" at daycare... just that she is distracted.

Ask the teachers about her day, then you can figure out why she's still having accidence there. There are tons of reasons why she's having trouble. A daycare has other kids that are also being trained along with other kids to watch over. Those things can affect her potty training success. I used to work at a daycare and I've seen it before. A line of 3 or more kids all have to go and all being trained. By the time the first one gets done the other 2 are already needing a change of clothes.

Then because she's having so much fun she might get distracted as well. She sees another kid get attention when they have an accident so she decides to follow suit to get attention.

    The list goes on.....

So talk with the teachers and see if she's the "only one" and if so try to get some one and one time to have her learn. Remind her to tell the teacher when she has to go, even if the teacher seems busy, do not be afraid to speak up.

  • She's pretty young... only a year old. Congrats for potty training her so young! Anyway, I would say, if you would like, give your daycare some stickers you give her at home and have them tell her, and you as well, that if she goes potty at daycare, she'll get stickers too! :)

she is POTTY TRAINING & accidents are normal. send her to school with some clean, dry clothes and relax. she's very busy at school. her body may take up to 3 more years to fully mature & develop bladder and bowel control. stay consistent & consider diapers at for a bit longer.

They probably aren't reminding her to go enough, and she is too absorbed in her activities to remember, and then she wets her pants. Ask them to remind her every 30 minutes. Good Luck
