What to avoid in vegan cooking?

We are having a potluck at work and I want to ensure my dishes are vegan-friendly. I know the obvious as to what I should not have in my dishes - no meat or meat products. And also no eggs, butter, milk. Could you help me with any other items that I would take for granted that may not fit in the vegan family of foods?

Thanks in advance.

I prefer both fruits and fresh vegetables better, regardless how they look and taste. You desire a little of both.

Just use fruit and veg, make your sauce with tomato's onions herbs and spices and you can not go wrong.
