Christians, How many have stopped watching Oprah Winfrey since she's been promoting New Age garbage?
I'm talking specifically about "The Secret"/Law of Attraction and "A Course in Miracles". So many of her viewers seem to be blindly going along with the flow that I have taken to calling the phenomenon, "The Cult of Oprah". Does anyone else feel that way?
Both are being touted as harmless philosophies that are compatible with Christianity. But nothing could be further from the truth! Rather than finding true contentment and inner peace, as advertised, the underlying philosophies are inherently demonic. They are based on the writings of spirit mediums Esther Hicks and Gloria Wapnick, respectively, who both received their information by channeling spirit entities—an occult practice clearly condemned in the Bible because it opens a person up to demonic possession. Far from being compatible with Christianity, we ought never to dabble in such “doctrines of demons” (1 Cor. 10:20-22; 1 Tim. 4:1). The Law of Attraction is also foundational in occult practices like Witchcraft and Wicca.
Epona, that's a pretty good assumption that I have never read the books in question, but it is WRONG! I am a scholar of comparative religions and theologies and I educate people on them. I, in fact, own the DVD "The Secret", the book "The Law of Attraction", and many other books that you cannot even imagine, all for the purposes of research. I have researched this matter back, in fact, to its roots which are heavily entrenched in ancient mysticism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Theosophy, Hermeticism, etc. as the rest of the New Age garbage is. If you were even 1% as researched as I am on the subject, then perhaps you would have gotten the point.
My apologies, Epona. It was another post that charged that I haven't read these books. However, this is NOT my opinion. God said it. This Q was for CHRISTIANS who obey what God says:
Isa. 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? 20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Lev. 19:31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Lev. 20:26 And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine. 27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Notice in the last, how serious God takes it!
BTW: for those who don't understand what the King James version means by "familiar spirits", it is speaking of the practice of necromancy, which is seeking advice from the dead/ disembodied spirits, which is exactly what spirit mediums like Esther Hicks and Gloria Wapnick, who are behind these teachings have done. They are not at all candid about the fact that these "teachings" came from familiar spirits and, in fact, Oprah did a 3-part radio interview with Esther Hicks where she actually "channeled" Abraham, her "spirit guide". Anyone who doesn't know about this secret behind "the Secret" is either purposely deluding themselves or has not investigated what is behind the facade.

Oprah would be fine if she stuck to being a talk show host. but now she's trying to be America's religious advisor and is doing it all wrong, sending the wrong message to people that will separate them from God.
Too many sheeple listen to her and don't think for themselves, including her procalmations that there is more than one way to get to Heaven and you don't need Jesus.
Oprah Winfrey is wrong and she has no business telling people the opposite of what God said.
"I think I'll just think about it and it will come to me." Yeh right, if was that easy why isn't everyone doing it?

Yea, she started doing this awhile back and has been promoting phychics for awhile, which I never liked. I still read her magazine from time to time, but try to ignore the new agey stuff. As for leading people astray, she has never really called herself a "Christian" that I can recall and I have always considered her more on the new agey side.
True Christians should never follow someone who gets involved in this stuff and should certainly know the difference between what is of God and what is not of God. But that doesn't mean a person is totally wrong or evil in everything they are about. I still think Oprah is a fine person and has helped a lot of people with self esteem issues. There are a lot worse things on TV.

Between spirit-ism, Course in Miracles, and endorsing books of liars such as The Secret"/Law of Attraction. What I did watch has been completely eliminated and the time devoted to God.
Christians should be aware of this:

The Law of Attraction is not New Age garbage, it is a very real phenomenon and effects everyone. I have seen it occur in my life.
I was a fan of Oprah for many years but not since it went overboard on having show after show about really painful things like people cutting themselves and about her friend Gayle and herself (going on trips or whatever...boring stuff). They have run out of material and the show is flat now and stars they have on there are so boring and uninteresting. I agree with you that it is wrong of Oprah to appear to cultivate her own cult following -- she sure likes power.

No, I never think to watch Oprah. I am sorry I missed it!

Never watched her show in the first place.
And if she really has these beliefs...it's her decision. If I was an Oprah supporter/fan I definitely wouldn't support her anymore.

Oprah Winfrey is not a dumb woman, but I probably have not watched a full episode of her, since when she tried to humiliate James Frey.

I had pretty much stopped watching her before that, since I have a job and a life, but I certainly won't pay any attention to anything she says now.
Coincidentally, she is the one who first got everyone all hyped about Obama----or is that a coincidence?????

Oprahs money made her too big for her bridges! She throws her money around and people follow....she might as well buy a small country for herself....and she can play god there all day long!
