Question on the MMR Jab?

I'm wondering about the MMR jab. I have 4 little ones and I am wondering when they should get the jag-my doctor has said nothing about it.

What age should children be getting it? When should the doctor bring up the idea?

Update:

in the uk - 3 of them are one year and one is 5 months

They get this at around a year old.

You say you are in the UK?

Each of your children should have a hand held red medical book. Look in the section that says 'immunisations' and that gives you a guide to what they have and when. The nurse will fill in when they have had them so you have a permanent record and can keep things up to date.

    12 months Hib/men c

    13 months MMR and PCV

    3-5 years DTap/IVP plus 2nd MMR

Additionally, my son is 14 weeks so has not had his MMR yet but my health centre did write to me a few weeks ago when my daughter was due her pre school booster injections so I know mine lets you know.

    Edit:

Is the thumbs down gnome haunting this thread??

The first MMR is around 1 - 1 1/2 years, so you should be getting a letter soon about the eldest children. The follow up MMR is given between 3 - 5 years old.

You could phone your GP surgery to ask, since it is known for letters to go missing (or not sent at all!).

My little boy is 1 year and 1 month old. He had his MMR jab just over a week ago! I think the date of the jab depends on the area that you live in.

When the midwife 1st saw my baby, she asked if i was happy for him to have vaccinations and they were all automatically sent to us from there on.

I would phone your GP or health visitor for advice.

Are you in the UK? They should have the first one at about 18 months. Get to the GP smartish - the MMR is a lot, lot better than the possible measles, mumps or rubella if they don't have the inoculations.

I think they usually have the jab at about 13-14 months old. Your doctors surgery should send a letter, but if not I owuld just ring and ask about it for your one year olds.

  • They are supposed to have it t about 12-15 months old

Then they have a booster between 3-5 years

In the UK it's given at around 13 months, maybe a bit older. You'll probably just get a letter inviting you to bring your kids in (triplets?). If your kids are older than this, I would ring the surgery and check. Letters do get lost in the post, and you don't want to put your kids at risk by having them unimmunized.

If you have 4 kids, unless they are quads, they've missed their jab (or they've already had it and you didn't realise).

My lad had his at about 18 months I think (maybe even sooner)

[Edit] - just spotted the ages - wow triplets!!

They aren't due yet - you'll get a letter from your Doctor when they are due...
