ATHEISTS would you ever believe in any SUPREME BEING putting aside all other religious beliefs.?

Atheists , would you agree to the concept of a supreme power instead of multiple Gods and multiferous beliefs ? If yes why not some concerted effort is made in this direction . This I hope may usher in peace, harmony and concordance among people ?

Update:

So far 13 out of 30 answerers seem to agree to the idea that either they accept the idea of a supreme being or they would accept it if sufficient evidence is provided .

The intention of the question is to accertain whether atheists agree or disagree to the concept of a single supreme being .

Athiesm as such amounts to total rejection of the concept of God . But many a times I did mark that atheist speakin in a different tone and that confused me. The 13 answerers out of the first 30 are willing to accept a supreme being provided its proved and the rest 17 true to the inherent meaning wont believe in a supreme power.

My observation is that there are almost 45% atheists who might believe in a God if necessary proof is given and the rest 55% wont believe in any supreme power what so ever.

We don't need belief in 'supreme powers' to usher in harmony. We need education, consent, common sense, less superstition and intolerance of 'us vs them' sectarian nonsense.

We need belief in humanity. So why can't Muslims and Christians etc consider humanism?

Why does everyone want so bad to be the subject of some "supreme being"? I'm perfectly content without thinking that someone has control over my life and my actions and personally, I don't like the idea of some celestial dictator telling me how to live my life. If there is anything beyond this existence for us, it is ridiculous for us to assume we know what that is. No story I've heard has been convincing enough to make me believe in anything except what I see with my own eyes. And I would not believe in a "supreme power", even if it was monotheistic or the exclusive belief unless the evidence was there to support it.

The atheists I know wouldn't believe that because they don't believe in any supreme beings whatsoever, so it's not a matter of atheists 'agreeing' to anything. They aren' t a 'religion'of any kind in the first place. They don't congregate and talk about their lack of belief (why would anybody gather to talk about what they DON'T believe in?). Although I believe some groups have formed,it is solely to protect peoples' rights regarding "church vs. state" which many Christians are trying to undermine. It is NOT as any form of worship.

Personally, I am 'spiritual.' Ie., I believe there IS a single God, but that religions were created by human beings, NOT by God. And some religions, like Christianity, are harmful--some Christian leaders have, over the centuries, used their religion to control the masses so that the churches can gain power and wealth (ever wonder about all that gold you see in churches, and their $600,000 candelabras?)

But peace and harmony? I think teaching it should start in the schools (and churches too) from a young age on, that it's not about "good vs. evil" regarding wars. It's mostly about politicians with personal agendas, and innocent people being written off as "collateral damage" when US bombs kill them ("Nothing personal"). Well, what if the 'collateral damage' were YOUR mother or sister or child?

    Suddenly it gets very personal.

EDUCATION (a new kind, a common sense kind)--is the way to usher in peace, harmony and concordance among people. Because when you KNOW your neighbors (people in neighboring countries) for the good people they are, just trying to eek out a living like the rest of us, you don't feel much like bombing them . It’s not like Star Wars. Not as simple as ‘good vs. evil,’ not when you’re killing innocent men, women and children. Do we want our children raised to believe 'bomb first, regret later' is a healthy gov't policy? I don't.

Life is a supreme power. No need to believe anything beyond this simple concept.

Atheists don't believe in the existence of god or gods so I personally would say no. But if you can provide me solid evidence of gods existence (and I don't mean a 2000 year old book) then I might think about it.

I don't have a reason to believe in a "supreme being"... though I would be surprised if something godlike was not out there.

If an atheist thought a god was necessary, or that a godlike thing existed, they wouldn't be atheist.

Which religious belief would win over?

That would usher in everything -except- peace, harmony and concordance among people. Surely you see that much...

Why would we need this "being" or "power"? Can't we just try to work out peace, harmony and concord among ourselves, without imaginary supervisors?

I'd agree to/believe in the possibility of anything given sufficient evidence.

Of course there is an all-encompassing energy force, how can there not be? But the only way to know it is to experience it for yourself, otherwise it is just heresay and that would be as bad as believing in the bible would it not?
