In creation science, which comes first, the Bible or the objective evidence?
I was choking down a creationist article from Answers in Genesis that was discussing how modern geology is completely wrong, when I found an interesting statement concerning the primacy of the Bible. It basically said that the Bible comes first and interpretations of nature should not be considered unless they align with a literal reading of the book of Genesis.
It seems to me that physical evidence (eg: geologic records) should naturally point to the truth. Why is it then that a scientist should be preoccupied with aligning their interpretations with anything?
Is just seems like creation science is quite backward. The natural world should point to its creator and the real history... but instead creationists (in their own words) start with what they consider true and work from there. What do you think?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf there are on the order of 2,000,000,000,000 planets in our galaxy alone...?
...then what are the chances that another form of life evolved elsewhere in our galaxy?
With telescopes we can see about 170,000,000,000 galaxies... do you think life could be in one of those?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSince choices concerning morality cannot come from your brain...?
where do they come from?
They can't come from your brain because moral choices are a spiritual matter. The brain is just a massive biological neural network, its physical processes can't possibly determine spiritual decisions.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists, do you feel Richard Dawkins is an appropriate representative for atheists, or of atheism?
I was looking at the University of Illinois' most recently released research papers and found a study on the "disgust response" to morally offending materials. In the study they used writings from Richard Dawkins to experiment on Christians' disgust response...

What do you think of Richard Dawkins as your representative?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoEvidence in the Bible matches real-life statistics?
The Bible says:
"In the whole land, declares the LORD,
two-thirds will be struck down and perish;
yet one-third will be left in it.
This third I will put into the fire;
I will refine them like silver
and test them like gold.
They will call on my name
and I will answer them;
I will say, ‘They are my people,’
and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’ "
... and today 1/3 of the world is Christian. Isn't that amazing???
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf someone gave you scriptures that sounded like this...?
"The Lord your God shall raise up a prophet from among you who will resemble me."
or
"The sceptor shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruling staff from between his feet, until shiloh comes, and to him shall belong the rule of the people."
... and then told you that you should believe in Mohammad because he fulfilled those prophecies and many more like them... would you be convinced?
If not, why should non-Christians be convinced by that kind of stuff? (those are actual prophecies offered by Christians on Yahoo Answers)
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoJesus prophecy: Israel's enemies "laid waste"?
Which two enemies of Israel were "laid waste" before Jesus had grown up?
"...before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste..."

"I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death"

3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs God punishing people when he lets them be born in a non-Christian nation?
Should we thank the Lord every day that we don't have to struggle out of our culture's religion in order to get the soul-saving truth... or is it not an accident - did God intend for each of them to get damnation?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI thought the fulfilled prophecies were part of the strength of the Christian religion?
But every time I come across a fulfilled prophecy in the New Testament, and I read the corresponding scripture in the Old Testament, the context is clearly irrelevant to the New Testament application of it.
Am I supposed to not cross reference these things? Do I need to be a Christian before reading the Bible?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan non-truth be better than the truth?
Is it true that in all situations the truth is the best?
For example, would it be better that every American know that the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed that America attack itself so that it had an excuse to attack and invade another country (Operation Northwoods)... or is it sometimes best to let the truth slide in favor of a better outcome (in this case, more trust and patriotism)
Don't get caught up in my example - you can probably easily make a better one. It's a general question.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoShould any animal be considered a "non-human person"?
Evil atheist scientists are at it again: they want dolphins to be legally made "non-human persons"
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/arti...
What do you think, can animals be "persons"?
God gave us the Earth and everything on it... and clearly demonstrated that animals cannot be "persons", as demonstrated by his demands for blood-sacrifices, and he even made clothes for Adam and Eve out of animal skins. Can we come together and stop the atheists from ruining our national policies?
23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat do you think of Google's "top reasons to believe in God"?
I google'd "top reasons to believe in God" and here is what the first google result had to say. What do you think?
1) The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today
2) The universe had a start - what caused it?
3) The universe operates by uniform laws of nature. Why does it?
4) The DNA code informs, programs a cell's behavior.
5) We know God exists because he pursues us. He is constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to him.
6) Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God revealing himself to us.
