Can non-truth be better than the truth?

Is it true that in all situations the truth is the best?

For example, would it be better that every American know that the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed that America attack itself so that it had an excuse to attack and invade another country (Operation Northwoods)... or is it sometimes best to let the truth slide in favor of a better outcome (in this case, more trust and patriotism)

Don't get caught up in my example - you can probably easily make a better one. It's a general question.

Maybe in some Hindu Philosophical Interpretations Maya (The so called illusion of untruth) is also accepted as Part and Parcel of a Larger Truth of God perhaps..

For a time, until the truth smacks you in the face, it always does.

"The bird was flying......finally the Kiwi was flying. The air was rushing past his face and rolling over the stubs he had for wings......unfortuantly he was falling straight down...but it felt like flying....until he hit the sudden stop at the end"

Non-truth is ignorance, therefore truth is always best. If one does not experience truth, one will not follow the path to the cessation of suffering, and thus will not experience enlightenment.

The non-truth will stand only until the truth comes & knocks it down.

The problem with lies is that they turn reality into your greatest enemy. I'd rather be on good terms with reality by acknowledging its refusal to change itself for my wishes.

The truth hurts, but it helps.

The truth is that the banana waving creationist is a monkey, and you all know it.
