Atheists, do you feel Richard Dawkins is an appropriate representative for atheists, or of atheism?

I was looking at the University of Illinois' most recently released research papers and found a study on the "disgust response" to morally offending materials. In the study they used writings from Richard Dawkins to experiment on Christians' disgust response...

I'd prefer Stephen Hawking to be our representative.

Just because we're both atheists does not mean that Richard Dawkins represents me. He can speak for himself. If I ever need representation I can speak on my own behalf.

I don't have any outside representation, I represent myself and only myself, just like Richard Dawkins.

Please point out how Dawkins is "my" representative or the representative of what amounts to a lack of belief in X.

I think it's funny that they will use Dr Dawkin's writings and speeches when it supports them, but then say he isn't on their side when he says stupid things. And they call christians hypocrites!

They also used writings from the Koran... of course they would use materials that are at odds with christian morals - what is your point?

Probably not, but believers keep trying to promote him to that office anyway.

They're always looking for easy targets even if it requires inventing them.

I'll take him over Mel Gibson any day.
