How do owners of Staffies etc deal with the bad image?!?

& the no. being destroyed..?

Now i'll admit we had an accidental litter 5yrs ago, 2 pups; one adopted by our vet, the other we have now as the home that adopted him had a Boxer that started to attack him as he was going blind.... Ok so that's out the way!!

We currently own 3 staffies & a foster....

Thing is there is so many that the rescues can't take them, yet they're still being bred..... Where is the logic?!?

(one staffie of ours is a rescue at 18mths, the foster is only 11 mths)

Update:

Personally, we are responcible, our dogs are never in a position to run away etc, they are on a radio fence, which gives them all the freedom they want!! Over here it just got to the point that if we took them elsewhere, we got awful abuse, even when ours were muzzled etc, & we politely asked people NOT to let their dogs bounce on ours....

I find it so sad that so many are in rescues & that they are finally having to say no to taking them.... I just so want a forever home for our girl; she gets treated as one of ours & spoilt accordingly, but she's had a tough start.... :(

Update 2:

Meant to put that in Ireland they aren't allowed to ever be off lead, have to be muzzled & on a short lead at all times.... So sad...

you ignore the bad image stuff and make sure you are a responsible Staff owner, by always keeping your dog/dogs under control and always on a lead unless its safe to let them off for a run making sure there's no other dogs about, this is most important when you have more than one Staff because they will act on impulse as a pack and never encourage your Staff to be aggressive they are wonderful little dogs but they can do big damage, don't let them down. My Staff passed away 3 years ago he was much loved and sadly missed. sadly irresponsible and ignorant people breed their Staffs and flood rescue centres all over the UK some are destroyed, some are still used for fighting and some find loving caring homes with people like you, ignorance breeds contempt and that's what i have for irresponsible Staff owners.

I know haw you feel it is so hard, why can't people just STOP breeding them. Staffs and Bull terriers have a bad image from idiotic owners (not like us) breeding to just make money! It's a real shame I think a law should be brought in so that only reputable registered breeders can breed. We have too much freedom our dogs. I also think that breeders should HAVE TO properly vet EVERY person they sell a puppy too that would save alot of shelters being full to the brim, if they know what there letting themsleves in for they wont get rid of the dog after they're out of the cute stage and into naughty zone!!

As for the image thing I know what you mean were constantly having to tell people our dogs won't eat theres and can they please put there dogs on a bloody lead if they don't like mine!! It's other people that are the problem not our dogs just ignore them!! I do!

i have had so much grief recently because we adopted a rottie X. family were rude saying how could i put my children at risk. it wasn't her fault and had spent her life in a rescue until we adopted her at 6 months old after being abandoned as a pup. I walk with pride at the park as she is so well behaved and is the most loving of girls to people and dogs alike. the more people see how good they can be the sooner people will give them a chance. Just make sure we train them well and let only the best shine through.

I had a staff 30 years ago and back then they were perceived as good family pets owned as family dogs and seen as being good with children, the dogs have become fashionable lately and are now owned as status symbols it is sad to see a breed being destroyed by irresponsible people and more so when innocent dogs are dying people need to stop breeding whilst dogs are dying in rescue
