The Best McCain VP to fill social Conservative appetite?
Give the fact that the conservative base feels that McCain is a bit moderate (socially), would it make sense for McCain to choose a socially conserative VP?
My thinking is that McCain will do very well with the Moderate Republicans. And will do ok with the Hillary supports and moderate Dems.
Could he also pull in a strong showing from the Conserative Republicans with a social conservative VP. Remember, religious Repubicans are generally more concerned with social issues than fiscal issues.
Hence my real question... Is a McCain, Huckabee ticket a nealy unbeatable team?
Hmm, I disagree with the comments that the social conservs have no one else to vote for. Unless they are excited about the election, they will not show up. He will lose without them.

The VP pick is a big conundrum for MCain. He needs some wow factor, as Obama is shown way ahead in Electoral Votes in the current polls - www.fivethirtyeight.com - for what polls are worth....
Obama just needs to pick someone safe so it's still about Obama. McCain has to wiegh offending conservatives against alienating moderates. If he picks a centrist like Carly Fiorna, Mike Bloomberg, or Tom RIdge, the right will be enraged. If he picks an obvious right-winger like Sanford, Jindal, or Graham, it scars his maverick/centrist image and also could cost the election...
The downside to picking Huckabee is that it hurts with moderates and only helps 50% with conservatives. Club For Growth type conservatives are not happy with Huck. So a Huck VP would do more harm than good

My List for McCain VPs:
Condoleeza Rice- the only problem is that she is working with Bush.
Bobby Jindal- He is a little too new to national politics, but he would work anyways.
Mike Huckabee- he will bring in some of those social conservatives. even though he wont win any because of him McCain will be able to some swing states by keeping voters away from Bob Barr (libertarian) and Chuck Baldwin (constitution).

It could work, but I do not think so. Huckabee sort of burned himself with that crack at the NRA meeting.
Jindal would be a much better choice; conservative, young, a minority, and since he is from LA, the whole issue of how the Feds responded to Katrina will be off the table. Jindal is the guy cleaning up after them.

Mike Huckabee will not add one additional State to the McCain win column. Maybe a financially astute person with Conservative credentials and media savvy ... Steve Forbes.

See, abortion rights is a technical question it somewhat is misplaced in the way it somewhat is phrased interior the media. in spite of the fact that if it somewhat is phrased as outlawing abortion as a ability of start administration, then i think of help is going up dramatically. What the liberals do is confuse the concern with the extreme situations, which comprise rape or to keep the existence of the mummy. i do no longer think of they're same subject. actual, the reaction is going to be distinctive and we see the reaction is distinctive. in spite of the undeniable fact that, those are the exceptions and not the guideline. i'm greater in touch that somebody get up and say Roe v. Wade is incorrect. no longer through abortion subject yet through fact of it somewhat is comprehensive emaciation of the 10th modification or what's left of it following it somewhat is trouncing by ability of the commerce clause and the needed and correct clause. i do no longer inevitably think of an overturning of Roe v. Wade could propose abortions could be unlawful in all circumstances national in spite of the undeniable fact that it may positioned the alternative decrease back interior the hands of all of us state the place it is going to be. i think of Joe Lieberman could be a terrible selection. he's a Democrat and, in spite of the fact that if on the Republican value ticket, his loyalty remains to the Democrats as he keeps to caucus there. additionally, he's a traitor. He wields ability interior the Senate through fact the Democrats choose him. If the Democrats %. up only one or 2 seats, he will become Mr. beside the point. They actual are not going to place him on any committees. Tom Ridge? Being from Pennsylvania, I see some super advantages of Ridge. McCain has a huge gamble to take it to Obama in a state it somewhat is traditionally Democrat (through fact Obama can no longer do nicely exterior of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia) and Ridge will help that. McCain has to weigh some super advantages of Tom Ridge in Pennsylvania against the ability alienation of his base. Of he concludes the backside is going to vote for him through fact they have not any option, he's taking Ridge. If he concludes Ridge will alienate his base, he would not. I, in my view, am a Sarah Palin fan.

Just as Bill Clinton chose a moderate Southerner, Al Gore, McCain should choose someone who is ideologically close to him.

With the things that McCain has said about the religious right. It just not going to happen. People don't like McCain the man, so no matter who he picks it not going to help him in those circles.
Lucky for him Hilary Democrats will decide this race in his favor.

In my opinion, McCain is going to pick a woman or a person of foreign or black heritages. Like Bobby Jindal.

Polls are showing McCain is in BIG trouble with his base. If he does not make them happy he will lose this election. (Personally I think he loses anyways....but he certainly will not do it by picking a VP that will further anger conservatives).
