I am a bit jaded on this subject. But I think the study of sociology is the most beneficial as it analyzes human interaction and social mores. The saying "When in Rome" does hold water in that living in a society is more than just providing a valuable good or service, you must also know how to interact and act according to the accepted roles. Charisma, or a magnetic personality can be a great asset, but knowing how to employ interpersonal communication requires an intimate knowledge of the society you intend to use it on. Knowing how to dress in a certain area can keep you from getting robbed or shunned, obviously a white robe with a pointy hat wont go too far in Harlem. Need More?

To answer that question adequately would take an entire book, but Albert Einstein said that if you can't write your idea on a 3x5 note card, you don't know what you are talking about.
So here goes.
The study of humanities gives you insight as to what constitutes being human and insight as to why we act in the ways we do.
This knowledge may not give a discrete skill set in the way an accounting class or a programming class will, but the knowledge of history, for example, just might give one pause to think and consider before, say, engaging in an armed conflict with another nation.
We can be wonderfully creative and humane. We can also be beastly inhumane. (Funny how we mark our bad side as beastly when we can act in a much more terrible manner than our brethren vertebrates).
I would say that a study of humanities makes one a more fully aware adult. There are those who would disagree quite vociferously, but that's why we have these discussions, yes?
