iPod owners...ever had your iPod die after 1 1/2 years?

Mine kil led over yesterday. I have tried everything to restore without any luck. Is this normal for it to only last that long? The battery replacement is $59 and the service repair is $99 plus a $30 shipping on top of those. A new one is $140. Would it pay me to get a new one?

The battery dies pretty easy. I've been lucky, mine's lasted me, but it's not unusual for it to die like that. Don't pay $99 for the repair, though! If you buy a new battery from eBay, it's extremely cheap (here's one for $7! http://cgi.ebay.com/REPLACEMENT-BATTERY-TOOLS-FOR-...

you'll also get the tool you need. There are numerous guides on how to do it out there on the internet, just be careful, and follow the guide exactly how it says.

  • i had the first generation ipod, and it lasted FOREVER... i think technically 5 years or so? maybe 4, but it was a very long time, and whats more interesting is that the ipod didn't even break down on me, my charger broke down, and the new chargers that were selling 4 or 5 years later didn't even work for that ancient version i had, and since the battery life was down to pretty much nothing.. (30mins of play time when fully charged), my ipod was then retired. now i have a itouch, and a shuffle, love em both.

I only expect iPods and things like that to last about 18 months personally. It looks like it would be cheaper to just buy a new one, especially with all of the new models out. You might want to look into getting a refurbished one, which is cheaper than getting a brand new one but works just as well.

Well I've had my nano for 2 years now and it has yet to die, it's just really glitchy. I have heard it's pretty common after a year or so for the inner battery to die. I would just get a new one if I was you, it's cheaper than repairing your old one right?

The first iPod nano that I owned died after 2 years. I didn't want to bother wasting money on fixing it, when I could have bought another for the same price.

i'd still bring it to the apple store's genus bar; at least have them try it out first and see what they say - it could just be defective and they'll replace it for free if so; if it's not, then definitely get a new one... good luck!

Yeah, it's better to buy a new one in that case.

I also recommend upgrading to an iPod touch

Never had this happen to me, but it's definitely worth it to buy a new one rather than repair it.
