Does your faith teach you to be gentle and accept disappointments as well as to put others first?

Prayer for Faith

Teach me, my Lord, to be sweet and gentle in all the events of life, in disappointments, in the thoughtlessness of those I trusted, in the unfaithfulness of those on whom I relied. Let me put myself aside, to think of the happiness of others, to hide my little pains and heartaches, so that I may be the only one to suffer from them. Teach me to profit by the suffering that comes across my path. Let me so use it that it may make me patient, not irritable. That it may make me broad in my forgiveness, not narrow, haughty and overbearing. May no one be less good for having come within my influence. No one less pure, less true, less kind, less noble for having been a fellow traveler in our journey toward Eternal Life. As I go my rounds from one distraction to another, let me whisper from time to time, a word of love to Thee. May my life be lived in the supernatural, full of power for good, and strong in its purpose of sanctity. AMEN!

Beautiful prayer, Debra. I hope you don't mind, I have copied it and saved it in my files. Its very inspiring.

I was born a Hindu, which overall speaking was the basic foundation for Mahatma Gandhi's non-violence movement. My faith probably teaches us to be gentle and accept disappointments as well as putting others before our own interest. However, I would like to give credit for that to my parents more than our faith. I am sure it was not my faith which did the trick. It was probably mommy!

My dear some people of faith live in a rough and turbulent world fighting for justice and peace and gentleness may not necessarily be one of their better qualities. Yet they live with a great sense of optimism courage and determination. You may have to be aware that faith and spirituality can take people on different paths. To aspire to the ascetic life is also a spiritual path that is centred on prayer and humility in an aura of gentleness and acceptance. Just remember that Jesus made his mark by following a road that antagonised those who had political and religious power that lead him to a violent death. God is good but His methods are not necessarily always nice. The main thing in life is to accept God's will where ever that may lead us; and life can be quite messy and unpredictable at times. Aspire to live up to your authentic humanity in the here and now in all its potential because I suspect that as you peak in that you will begin to discover that's when the supernatural will begin to loom in sight; as one process follows the other.

  • I Love and agree with the Prayer of faith,

But the initial Q, "Life" is not wrapped up in so many words but Yes, we "do our best to be in peace with all men at all times -as far as one can be", - Hbr 12:14.

I hope you are having a lovely day.

Indeed. The Three Fold law states that Whatever you comes back to you three fold. Good or bad. So to treat others well is to also treat yourself well. You cannot get everything that you want, that's just not the way Nature is.

    Beautiful prayer.

if christ helps you be a good person, then i'm with you all the way. unfortunately, there are people that warp religion to justify their closed mindedness. i'm a buddhist myself so the well being of others always comes first and in terms of disappointments, i just accept the fact that bad things happen. that's life. best of luck to you. namaste.

I believe that disappointments will come and that I must accept SOME of them. I should also try to better things by overcoming SOME of them. But, in all things, I should put God and others before myself.

Islam is a beautiful religion, full of wisdom and harmony. If this wonderful religion is followed properly then a typical Muslim would only be a great example to follow.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: "The Prophet never used bad language neither a 'Fahish nor a Mutafahish. He used to say 'The best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character.' (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Virtues and Merits of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 759)"

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: "The Prophet never used bad language neither a "Fahish nor a Mutafahish. He used to say "The best amongst you are those who have the best manners and character." (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Virtues and Merits of the Prophet (pbuh) and his Companions, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 759)"

Narrated Masruq: "Abdullah bin 'Amr mentioned Allah's Apostle saying that he was neither a Fahish nor a Mutafahish. Abdullah bin 'Amr added, Allah's Apostle said, 'The best among you are those who have the best manners and character.' (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab), Volume 8, Book 73, Number 56)"

Narrated Masruq: "We were sitting with 'Abdullah bin 'Amr who was narrating to us (Hadith): He said, "Allah's Apostle was neither a Fahish nor a Mutafahhish, and he used to say, 'The best among you are the best in character (having good manners)."' (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab), Volume 8, Book 73, Number 61)"

Allah Almighty in the Noble Quran commands us to return the evil that is done to us by others to not only with good, but with best!

Let us look at Noble Verse 13:22 "Those who patiently persevere, seeking the countenance of their Lord; establish regular prayers; spend out of (the gifts) We have bestowed for their sustenance, secretly and openly; and turn off evil with good: for such there is the final attainment of the (Eternal) Home."

Let us look at Noble Verse 23:96 "Repel evil with that which is best: We are Well-acquainted with the things they say."

Let us look at Noble Verse 41:34 "Nor can goodness and evil be equal. Repel (evil) with that is better: Then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate!."

Let us look at Noble Verse 28:54 "Twice will they be given their reward, for that they have persevered, that they avert evil with good, and that they spend (in charity) out of what We have given them."

Let us look at Noble Verse 42:40 "The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) Loveth not those who do wrong."

Whether people speak evil of you, in your presence or behind your back, or they do evil to you in either of those ways, all is known to Allah Almighty. It is not for you to punish. Your best course is not to do evil in your turn, but to do what will best repel the evil. Two evils do not make a good.

You do not return good for evil, for there is no equality or comparison between the two. You repel or destroy evil with something which is far better, just as an antidote is better than poison. You foil hatred with love. You repel ignorance with knowledge, folly and wickedness with the friendly message of Revelation. The man who was in bondage of sin, you not only liberate from sin, but make him your greatest friend and helper in the cause of Allah Almighty!. Such is the alchemy of the Word of Allah Almighty!. Your credit for returning evil with good and paying for charity is double. Also if you forgive and return the evil with good, then Allah Almighty will love you and reward you.
