A Knott on my leg?

I have had a big knott on my leg, half way down to my ankle. I also have a tender leg, I kneeled down on my leg today and almost collasped with pain.

I guess I am wondering, if I should get it checked out or not. I am an overweight person, so I know that is against me. I also stayed with my mom in the hospital for couple of days this last week and didn't have any good place to sleep and that leg really swelled up, but since I am at home, I had it up and it has gone down, but my knott is still there. It is hard, it feels like a bone actually.

I wonder should I get it checked out and when? I mean, I do not have any money, and to go to the ER would mean I wouldn't have to come up with money right today, but I also could wait to go to my doctor. My mom is worried especially if it is a blood clot. I don't want to get it checked out if it is anything to worry about it.

Please, no mean answers, just serious ones, please?! Thanks in advance. Any serious advice would be helpfu

Update:

I have not injured my leg to my knowledge, it's just wierd!

any time your leg swells, and has a knott, you should see a doctor, for now, i would keep it up, and take pressure off of it, ice can also help. you can put 1 cup achol, and 1 cup cold water into double zip lock bags,so it doesn't leak, put it in the freezer for about a hour.it is like the ones in the hospital,it can be re-used indefinately, it can be wrapped around your leg. i really don't think it's a clot, you don't have a fever,or redness, sounds like you have torn a muscle, tendon, or ligament. you can go to the county health dept. on monday, they go by how much you make. do they have ask a nurse where you live? hope this helps

My mom had the same thing. She ignorned it at first and then evenutally got it checked out by her docoter. It turned out she had a herniated disc. There was a problem in her back. Its not that you did anything wrong, or bad, its just something that happens, it could have even happend up to 30 years ago and your just feeling the pain now. The doctor says its quite common though. I think she has to go in to surgery soon for it. The doctor gave her some medications for it untill then. So I suggest you go to your doctor to get it checked out. If its not that, then try going to get a massage, they will make it feel sooooo much better. Good Luck!!! =)
