Do you have any creative discipline techniques?

For example, your 10 & 13 year old keep on fighting, so you make them sit on the couch together for an hour holding hands not speaking to each, unless they are compliments.

Your 10 year old likes to talk back to you so you make them go jog around the block twice.

Any other creative ideas?

On the radio today I heard a guest tell a story about his 5th grader, who mouthed off on the way to school... and apparently dad used humor to cure the problem. Basically, he created an obnoxious, ridiculous 'character' and embarrassed his kid all over the front of the school playing the part. Now all he has to do is make the 'face', and his son obeys.

Humiliation may not be the best technique, but humor beats the heck out of yelling and punishment. :)

I like the military form of punishment (excuse me, corrective action...). Exercises until the person is tired.

    Or community service.

However, since you specifically mentioned fighting - perhaps punishment isn't the right way to handle this. Try teaching them how to resolve their differences. Teach them about compromise. Offer to mediate their arguments.
