Am I the only one who criticized the NASCAR Safety Crews today?

Reutimann wrecked and it took what seemed like forever to get to him. I have TiVO, so I checked. It was a minute and ten seconds.

Does that seem like a bit much to you? Between this, and a couple of weeks ago when the safety crew just seemed to stand around and watch the car burn - does this tell you anything?

Is it time for NASCAR to pony up and pay for their own safety crew? They pay enough officials?

Anyone know how many officials NASCAR pays per race?

I agree that it seemed like a LONG time yesterday before they got to Reuitmann and I was nervous about his safety even though his window net was down. That was a hard hit.

Well Reutimann did drop the window net signaling that he was ok & in no immediate danger. My problem was with how long it took to get the car out of the tires & off the track. My 89 yearl old grandfather would have been quicker than they were.

But yes it does tell me something. Hope you never have to depend on the safety crew at Pocono & Infinaion.

it did seem to take forever, but you've got to remember how long it takes to get the whole field slowed down once the yellow comes out - safety crews don't move until it's safe for them. the drivers live with the risk as part of their job, the safety crews don't. numerous commentators went over this while reviewing the montoya fire. it takes over a minute for one car to get around the track at full speed - getting them all slowed down and together takes a little time. i'm sure they probably would have moved faster had reutimann not dropped the window net.

NASCAR sure could learn from the NHRA saftey Safari.

The saftey crews are stationed at stategic points around the track. These crews can not roll until NASCAR clears them to.Having worked on a saftey crew at Talladega we were not allowed to roll until the tower cleared us.At times this seemed to take forever.

But in reply it did seem to take longer than normal for the crew to arive.

I guess you are. Frankly, I think they did a worse job last week when the "driver" crew just stood there watching the car burn because the driver was already out and safe, so THEY didn't HAVE to waste their precious extinguishers on the CAR.

    GOOOOOOOOOO J Gordon!

different safety crews at different tracks

i imagine on a road course they are probably farther away in some spots

  • Yes it seem like every week the get worse. Years ago they were much faster. I don't know what they make but they need to speed up !
