Not at all. Except for banned literature (like pornography or subsersive ones, as these are in other countries) you can buy and sell second hand books. Universities and colleges are the places for unorganised, one-to-one transactions whereas across Churchgate Station in Bombay (Mumbai), Daryaganj - Nai Sarak in Delhi and College Street & Free School Street in Calcutta (Kolkata) have regular second hand book shops for buying and selling. Blossoms Bookshop on Church Street, Bangalore is also famous for second hand books.

Your friend has to visit these places personally or depute an agent to start discussions. I think these shops do not have overseas business.

Absolutely Not illegal. One can do this business and already too many are doing it in each and every city of India. The profit margins are also fine. One buys old books @ 25% of printed price and sells it @ 75% of its price. However, scope of negotiations are always here and there depending upon as who is more needy - you or the person from whom you buy and sell.

No. You can sell 2nd hand / 3rd hand books. Many shops are there for this.

Amazon and eBay. I'v e tried both but eBay tends to give you more for less Amazon takes too much for fees but you could potentially get a higher price for your books on amazon. so I'd suggest you try both of them. either way you will make money.

No way every thing is legal in India.

  • No, I don't think it be so. You go to Appa Balawant Chowk in Pune. You will find all sorts of links.
