I'm going to an Army Careers office tomorrow...?(UK only)?

And I wondered - should I address the guy who's running it by his rank and last name (as I already know it) or should I just leave that bit out when introducing myself.

"Hello Sergeant Baker I'm Oliver.."

OR

"Hello, I'm Oliver.."

I am a civilian and have an application being processed..

What do you think?

As you have not been sworne in yet,you do not need to use his rank. You are still classed as a civilian until you sign the dotted line and swear to protect the Queen and Country. So long as you respond with manners there is nothing he can say.

little tip don't call him sir and if you want extra brownie points call him starff! (this is how you address a staff sergeant) if you sign up you will get used to that term at aldershot! good luck and be safe!

Loadsa potential recruits think that intorductions, by forename is good form. The fact is, of course, "Good Ol' Ollie" is about to experience a right shock!......... when he signs up.......... as all recruits do.......... so good luck!

    He is Sgt.

Ollie is whatever his surname is.

Be wise! "Good morning/afternoon Sgt. I am Blogs. (or whatever)"
