Where does my dog go?

For the last 2 days my 4 yr old Miniature schnauzer has left for 5 hours the first day and tonight she was gone for 7! Each time I had left to take my son to work. She is usually really good about staying in the yard and with our outside dog that is tied up. Could she be following me? She is a timid dog and scared of everyone but us. I am so afraid she is gonna get hurt or stolen. I hate chaining her up, she hates it too. But looks like I'll have to to keep her safe.

so why dont you have inside dogs?? they're social pack animals..they want to be with you...there are alot of easy grooming aids out there if you're worried of them being dirty, and just use crates for when you go out..

how can you be so nonchalant? your dog could have been killed or bitten someone and been put to death.

and good lord, are they even spayed or neutered???????

by the way, it is AGAINST THE LAW for dogs to be outdoors unconfined alone. it's also AGAINST THE LAW for dogs to be outdoors without fresh water and shelter and outside in extreme weather such as heat or cold.

can't wait for the law to catch up with you. at least it's a purebreed, so she can hopefully go to a GOOD home quickly after they remove your animals, slap cuffs on you, then jail and/or fine you.

I had a dog that loved to run too.... She was the sweetest little dog, and we also could not bear to chain her up, and both of us hated it. But you know what? She was happy. She could disappear for hours and sometimes most of a day at a time, and we would worry, but she would be happy. When she was about 2 years old, she was hit by a car almost 1 1/2 miles from our house. Everyone knew she was our dog because they had had to return her to us multiple times (she actually stayed at some people's houses for some days until they heard that she was ours).

She lived a short but full life... But I miss her every day and it's been over a year. I suggest chaining up your dog, but take her to dog parks and for long runs/walks. We didn't really have this option as we live in the country.

Add: Don't you guys DARE say "OMG WHAT AN IDIOT SHE LET HER DOG RUN LOOSE!!!" I will hunt you down and chain you to a pole and take you on a walk once a day, see how you like it.

The question is...why is your dog running loose in the yard? I dont know what kind of area you live in, but chances are she will get stolen, or hit! Try keeping her in a cage inside while you are gone. It may take getting used to since she is a little older. But she will be thankful when she is alive and not dead on the side of the road. Try getting one of those things that has a radius that the dog wears a collar and has to stay in. They aren't that pricey. Someone may very well steal her though. It has happened to me before, and my dog was fenced. Good Luck

Why would you leave a dog outside unattended? Keep her in the house while you're dropping off your son. Don't leave your other dog chained up outside unattended, either. That is animal cruelty/neglect. What if the dog gets twisted up? What if the weather changes? Does your dog have enough fresh, clean water? If you really care about your dogs, don't leave them chained up and unsupervised. If I were your neighbor, I'd report you to the ASPCA.

Could be off 'visiting' someone else. Growing up in the country, our neighbors' outdoor cat that wasn't allowed in their house would show up each morning as it started to get warm and spend the day lounging on our coffee table in the air conditioning enjoying attention and being cool, then he'd head back home for dinner when it got dark and cooled off. Maybe your dog has found someone who'll let him in the house where he's comfortable, instead of leaving him outside all day!

Put her in a crate inside if you don't want to chain her up... is she fixed? if not, she might be fixing to start her heat period and is naturally looking for a mate... another male dog on your block might be tempting her. Good luck... I have a schnauzer and he actually enjoys being in the crate... for a timid dog it is good, it gives them a secure place that is safe for them, and gives them a sense of comfort... just like a little kid, a routine of going in a crate will be better for the dog that chaining it up outside or letting it loose... Like I said, good luck!

    * I am not saying put a little kid in a crate... just that routine is good for little kids and dogs, especially timid ones!

  • you leave a small breed like a mini loose in your yard, while you leave???

hmmmm, i guess dog fighters looking for bait dogs can't possibly find yours.

I guess your dog can't be stolen by some byb-er looking for another dog.

maybe your dog is the new car-proof dog!

dumbass, your dog belongs in the house, somewhere SECURE when you are away, that is the responsible thing to do. if you cannot do that, take the dog to a breed rescue, and get a real lawn ornament.

omg,you have no fence and you already have one dog tied?

keep in the house or crate till you come back, why chance the poor thing getting lost ,I would say more but don't want to really scare you

Are there many cars that drive on your road?

putting up a fence would be safe

You should never leave your dog on a tie down. You should:

    A. Dog-Proof Fence your yard

    B. Install Kennels or Dog Runs

    C. Crate-Train your dogs

    D. Allow/Train your dogs to stay inside

When you leave, where is the dog? Just outside loose? Is the only other alternative chaining her up--can't she stay in the house?
