How long is jail time?

My boyfriend just got in a fight like 20 or 30 minutes ago at this dude house. My boyfriend didn't actually fight the dude that lives there he fought his friend. The neighbors called the police and they took him to jail. My boyfriend is 17. My question is how long are they gonna keep him there?

They also may not have taken him to jail, just to the police station to book him, ask question, call his parents, ect. That process take take a couple of hours.

Well, a lot of it depends, but he should see a judge within 24 hours of his arrest, more than likely sometime tomorrow morning. At this "initial appearance" the judge will set whatever conditions there will be for his release and the prosecution will go over the allegations. He will have an opportunity to enter a plea. Good chance that he will be released, but you won't know until tomorrow.

It depends. I believe that juvi's don't get released until they have their court date, which is usually within a day or two. Once they have their initial court date, I believe that the judge determines whether or not they will be released, or if they have to be detained for a longer period of time. Tell your boyfriend not to be stupid, because in a year he's going to real jail and he's going to be someone's girlfriend.

If he is 17 then he is not going to jail. He is going to juvenile hall. He can probably be released to his parents or family member tonight.

If they decide to keep him, he will have to go before a judge within approximately 24 hours, although this depends on your state. If no one was injured, he will probably be home tonight.

until first appearance. it will probably be around 9 or 10 am, then you can find out his bail (if they havent given a bail amount already) they might just hold him for few hours and then release him. but call and find out when they are gonn apost bail or to see when he's gonna be released, they are open 24 hours a day.

I believe most states nowadays have changed their sentencing to life without parole for these types of crimes. Oklahoma may still use indeterminent sentencing and what the judge was trying to do was make sure this guy never ever had a chance to even see a parole board so it was basically a life sentence without parole. Not harsh for what he did.

he will be home Tonight or tomorrow morning, he's 17 he didnt go to jail, just the detention center

if he gets charged with anything (which he probably wont for a fight with a friend) he will have to stay till his court date

It will take days before he sees a judge, if he has been arrested before and needs bail this time, weeks
