Could the evolution vs. creation conflict be solved this way?
I'm just going to write what I basically believe on this and look forward to feedback from anyone who wants to offer it.
I personally believe that every living creature has a soul. It's possible that we define "living creature" in too limited a way, but I'll put that aside. My dog has a soul. A chimpanzee has a soul. A dandelion has a soul. Go as far as you want with that.
Given this, we humans do not represent some kind of pinnacle of creation. Creation is a system, not a thing that God did, trial and error, until finally getting it right when God made Adam and Eve.
Hence, we are no greater than an ancient species of primate, and it's not contradictory at all to suggest that there was intelligent design behind Creation AND part of that intelligence included the potential for species to evolve.
In other words, the ancient creatures from whom we human creatures evolved were soul-ful beings already, just like we are.
What do you think?
I may or may not be a deep thinker, as kindly stated by one answerer. However, I am a spiritual seeker, not really attached to being right or wrong on one side or another. Also, to call me a fence-sitter is to assume that there are only two possible answers.
I'm finding these answers interesting. Many folks are not seekers; many folks seem very content believing as they already do.
Thanks so far. This is kinda fun :-)
I should also add that I already believed these things. The connection between creationism and evolution occurred to me this evening and thought I'd share it. I'm not forcing anything as a compromise; I never seem to be able to force myself to believe anything!

What you're basically doing is trying to compromise by saying, "Evolution is true, but God still did it."
Which is fine; you're obviously trying very hard to hold onto your belief in god while still being reasonable. Good for you.
But you've presented no evidence that makes god's involvement necessary for evolution to be true. You've presented no evidence for the existence of "souls". These additions add nothing of substance to the scientific explanations we already have, which work perfectly well on their own. So, no. That argument is not convincing to me, though it may work perfectly well for you.
As a side note, have you ever read "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn? It's a philosophical novel, that, based on what you've written here, I think you'd probably enjoy. I read it in high school, and liked it a lot. You should check it out.

I do not think that animals and plants have souls, they don't have moral judgements and feelings as complex as ours. And if you believe in creation, God says that only humans were made in His image, not plants or animals. There could be some minor evolution involved over the years, because humans now live a lot longer than we do now two thousand years or so ago. I do not think many evolutionists would like this idea because it seems they want to keep God out of it.
Just FYI creation was not trial and error because God is perfect and new exactly how to create everything

I think you just said that you believe in Intelligent Design and that humans were always humans, no matter what species of humans we were.
Yes, everything has some sort of inner...sense of self. I believe that. Even that natural inanimate objects do. Because we don't have any decent definition of "alive."
However, humans aren't any better than anything else. You're no better than anyone else because you were shoved out of someone's vagina, just like they were. We all evolved from the same primordial soup (if I ever open an evolutionist cafe, that's totally gonna be the soup du jour once a week) and we're not better than anything else.
So how about we all stop whining about where we came from and look to where we're going?

This is a good attempt at a resolution. However, you have one part wrong. There is no such thing as a soul. You don't have a soul and a dandelion doesn't have a soul. You are right that we are all the same, but it is because nothing has a soul and a lot of people think too highly of themselves to accept that.

I kind of doubt that many people have researched the effect of teaching true science in the classroom. We don't study the effects of teaching plate tectonics or astronomy, so why would we do so for evolution? Not trying to be a smart-aleck, I just seriously can't imagine what the study would be for that might give you such data.

Do you think the price of soul will go up along with oil and everything else?
Pope John Paul the second already made the play for accepting evolution along with creation where were you ?
I don't buy into by the way it's like mixing water and oil; it will never satisfy my thirst for truth.

It's a nice thought and there's some merit to that line of thinking...but to to hope that it can solve the conflict between evolution and creation is not paying enough attention to the enormous division between the two.
That said, my own beliefs are probably more in line with this than either of the extremes. I'm a Christian but I don't take the biblical creation story literally.

There is no evidence for the existence of a soul. If you want to call sentience a "soul", then, yeah, all animal species possess one. But that doesn't really answer any questions except whether our ancestors were similar to us.
As far as Intelligent Design... baseless. It isn't a valid... well, *anything*, really, except the concession of the ID proponent where they admit they've given up and don't want to seek any further answers.

Creation means something that has been brought into existence from Nothing.
Only God can create from nothing as He is The Creator. He created every thing from nothing during or before Big Bang. He can also create from nothing anytime. Human or another then God can't create anything from nothing.
Everything converted into typical form in stages by Will of God. You can called it evolution.
He is controlling all His created creations.
"...Not even an atom's weight is out of your Lord's control, be it in the heavens or the earth. Nor is there anything smaller than an atom, or larger, that is not recorded in a profound record.” (The Qur'an, 10:61).
“It is We who have built the universe with (Our creative) power, and, verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it.” (The Qur’an, 51:47)
So God is The Creator and The Controller.

humans are the only species that can not only conquer the earth but can leave the earth. we are clearly better than a dandelion. I dont really understand what this has to do with evolution.
