The hook 2...?
I recently posted a question about a novel i was writing:
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak...
I have editted the first paragraph and want to know your opinions on it. Thnx xx
Chapter 1- The beginning.
I used to be an ordinary, teenage girl. 16 years old with no particular ambitions, no excitement and no adventure. Everyday I gritted my teeth as I stumbled out of bed. Slowly wandering down the well worn path towards the old wreck of a building, In which I went to burry my head in books.
I forever longed for the elegant hands of the old Elizabethan, clock to strike 4:30, so that I could stomp home after a agonizing day at college. Glaring at anyone who crossed my path, returning to the dark and lonely place I called home. I was never the most popular girl in school, but I had the brains. My family used to tell me that socialising didn’t matter at that moment in time. All that was important was my studies and that if I made it through exams, I could conquer the world. I know that they just said that to make me feel better. It never did. Nothing could take the pain away from being what people called “a loner”.
After an isolated day at college, I would come home, lock myself in my room and wait for dusk. The best part the day. Resting my head on my soft pillow, gazing at the blank ceiling. Reminiscing. Thinking about my future and how bleak it looked.
But little did I know that, that was all about to change…

To be honest, its a little repetitive and devoid of any emotion. Don't get me wrong I am not being horrible, The first chapter should grip entice the reader making them want more.
May be look at starting with some way of comparing now to then, already alerting the reader to something changing, making them from the start wonder what, keep it evasive hun kind of dangle the carrot before the donkey and lead it on!
I guess that's just my view, though I am a strong believer in all writing being art, and as such different people see different things what I see may not be what the next person See's kind of like my blogs hun...my view of what I see others see things differently!
