Two years of Oil?

an MSNBC talking head said that if we drilled in ANWAR and took every drop of oil out it would only give us TWO years of OIL dependency--(worst case)---Her point was it was not worth it.

However, If someone told you that you would not have to pay for TWO YEARS of ELECTRICITY for free would you not jump at the chance.--or continue paying the same price.

Are these people just idiots. Or is she just trying to manipulate the audience?

Anwar gives us 30 years of independence from Saudi Arabia.

although we would still have to import from other countries like Canada and Mexico. --That amounts to several hundred billion dollars a year that we could be giving our own citizens, instead of Saudi, and other countries.

Update:

David H. --For the individuals--your correct, it is not Free, but for the USA it would be Free. That money that goes out of the USA to buy oil would stay in the country--promote a stronger dollar and provide good jobs.

They're idiots. ANWR would pump about a million barrels a day into the system. That would be a significant help in the supply. That is about equal to the amount we import each day from Venezuela. How can that not be a help, and a help for a very long time?

  • Of course she is trying to manipulate the audience. She (whoever she is) is a so called analyst, with her own opinions and her own agenda. Whenever you here someone talking like that on TV, you're seeing opinion, which by definition is not balanced, it is one person's personal view.

To get an accurate idea of the issues of the day, you need to evaluate a number os sources for your information, listen to all of them, check out their 'facts', and use you OWN brain to make a balanced decision.

Talking heads will never have all the answers.

As for MY opinion, it's worth noting that drilling in the ANWR will do almost nothing to lower gas prices. The oil will still be sold on world markets, so the oil companies will make just as much money as they do from their wells in other countries. What it will do is lessen the amount of that cash going out of the country (to some extent)

Well, that 2 years of oil would give us time to find another source. I know the Iraqis are looking to increase production and would probably give the USA a good deal on price per barrel. That 2 years would be enough to hold us over until a deal could come through with that.

The big oil companies already have millions of acres to explore for oil, they just want more. It would take ten years to get the first barrel to the refineries. We have oil here in the States that is not from the Middle Eastern countries. Buy your gas from any of the following companies since they don't use the Middle East oil. BP/Phillips, Sunoco, Conoco, Hess, ARCO, Maverick, Valero or even Murphy USA.

Look at the source: MSNBC, a leisure service of the Democratic party and liberals in general. They are idiots and trying to manipulate the people.

How to explain this is that they're trying to keep this oil for absolute emergencies, such as America going to war with every Arab country.. and then they will not provide us with any oil. That would be a dire emergency.

Yes, it would be definitely worth it to have cheaper electricity, gasoline, and other services that we are paying astronomical prices for right now.. and I totally understand your point.

But again, they're trying to keep this oil for a dire emergency.. and let me tell you, that emergency is on its way!

"However, If someone told you that you would not have to pay for TWO YEARS of ELECTRICITY for free would you not jump at the chance.--or continue paying the same price."

But the oil companies that pump from ANWR won't be giving that oil away for free. It will be sold at global market price. It is a comparatively small amount of oil. It won't put a significant dent in demand. We don't get to pick where our oil is imported from. It is sold on in a global market.
