Does anybody know what the check engine light could be indicated in my VW?
Every time I turn the air conditioning on in my 2002 VW Jetta, the orange check engine light for emissions comes on. (It is not blinking, just stays on). If I turn the a/c off, the light goes off. I've had my air conditioning checked and serviced and there are no leaks or problems with the a/c. However, even after having the a/c serviced, the check engine light still comes on when I turn on the a/c.
What could this indicate? I would appreciate feedback.

I think you will find it is a charging fault with the alternator/generator. Do you have a voltage guage on the dash cluster? It should show about 14v's when the engine is running without lights and heater blower switched on.Check to see if the voltage guage drops when you switch the A/C on,it could be you have a worn blower motor which is drawing too much power from the battery, the voltage drop or demand from the battery would show as a fault to the cars computer/brain and register a fault which would cause the check light to come on.As soon as you turn the A/C off it goes out, right? I think this might be the cause...hope this helps you ...

Your best bet is to take your car to a mechanic who has the scanner and chip to check your car. He'll get codes from the computer that will tell him exactly what is causing the light to come on. There are many things that it could be, including a problem with the sensor itself.

what is the code that gets set when your check engine light comes on. Did the mechanic tell you that or offer to turn the code light off?

If there is an Autozone in your area you can stop by there and have them run the codes for you. That's the only way to really know without guessing. Other auto shops wil run the codes for you for free as well.

my check engine light comes on all the time. really annoying...sometimes its bc the gas tank cap didnt click enough, other times its a serious issue. theyll hook it up to a computer and charge you up the yin yang to fix it..
good luck
