Making my Birth name my middle name (Ontario Canada)?
OK Canadians (especially those in Ontario).
I am getting married next year and I am trying to figure out what to do with my name.
I know I am keeping my name and tagging my FH's name on the end but I am not sure how to do this.
My name will be Nikisha Grant Ridley.
I do not want a hyphen! I also do not have a middle name. I will either have 'Grant Ridley' as my last name (which i heard can cause problems without the hyphen) or I will make Grant my middle name.
Here is the question. Once I get married can I make Grant my middle name without doing a legal change (which costs money)?
I have seen many people from the US say they do this, but I am just wanting to know if it the same for Ontarians.
thanks a bunch

I live in the USA and I made my maden name my middle name after I get married. I then took my husbands last name as my new last name. You usually do not have to pay a fee. However after you get married when you go to get all your new documents such as drivers license and social security card and mailing address change and bank info. You change your name there, even if you are changing your middle name too. Then whenever you use your signature you can sign your name and use your middle intial and your new last name. I did not have to pay any fee to change my last name, however I did have to pay a fee to get my new license and social securty card.
example:
before you get married your name is Ava Maria Smith
After you get married your name is Ava Smith Clark.
your signature can be Ava S. Clark

We have just added my maiden name to our daughter's name. It was a name amendment and did cost money.
I have been told that it is free to make the change when you are getting married. Contact the Registrar General and ask them, they are in the know.
